Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Do we have enough 60+ people

Do we have enough 60+ people in Oxy that will be enough not to trigger an involuntary layoffs? I don’t know what percentage of people they are looking at reducing if it will come down to letting more people go in the coming months. What’s your take on this?

@1es same very few folks are taking it. Not sure what this means for the rest of Oxy but it might not be good

Anyone heard about numbers? So far only one in my department is confirmed taking the vsp.

Funny you want to throw the most experienced staff under the bus to save your lazy a-s. A good flush of the bottom twenty percent would help the company that buys you better deal with the remainder. If that is Chevron, expect 80% casualties. Hoping a handful of oldtimers take the package isn't going to save this three hour cruise ;-)

Wonder what the reaction would be if a normal worker bee asked them to expand the age group for the vsp

Perhaps you can negotiate to stay until next year with Manager approval. You can make more money that way and any lump sum payments from a retirement plan or deferred compensation may be pushed out a bit longer. Whatever you do try to push the actual retirement date out to 2026 so lump sums wouldn’t be paid until 2027. Good luck. Hopefully your biggest problem in the near future will be finding places to invest all of that cash.

Why would anyone over 60 want to continue working is my question? Surely you have saved enough by working in oil and gas and would prefer to go travel etc.

This is hilarious. I'm one of the "old guys" that my Oxy VP came into my office on bended knee and pleaded I stay. I think the company understands what the "old guys" have brought to the party. You just want to get drunk and laid as quickly as possible. Enjoy being HESS'd!

@ee “A lot of the gray haired employees need to go they have had their chance over long careers.” Spoken like a selfish child that doesn’t realize he or she will be a gray haired employee one day. When that day comes, remember it doesn’t matter what you want to do. You’ve had your chance. Now move on. You’re taking up space that someone else wants. What’s that? You want to work a few more years to save more for retirement? You selfish old person, always thinking of yourself. You should give me what I want that you have. You self absorbed old person.

Unfortunately, most the 65 plus that have been accounted for plan to stay in one BU. It’s time to go for most of them … they will have to lower it.

You are counting the dead as the stock closes at $40 today. You will be part of the body count if this slide continues...

I bet they lower it to 55+ if not enough 60+ take it. Most 60+ people I know plan to take the package.
