@na Yes, it is a racial thing. It has been observed that some black people drink coffee while badging. This is what is causing all this.

people have been fired for coffee badging. worker bees better be in office all day, ready to bootlick any EC members who show up (tho they can be fully remote outside of corporate centers still -- take a look at linkedin for the hr lady...)

there are also layoffs for cost reasons. more ahead. T and discount-rack EC can't grow this business, so how else to do this "transformation" and justify their bloated pay....?

TIAA is a dumpster fire. flee while you can...

@kk Thank you. The last few days have been some of my worst, but what has gotten me through has been the friendship from my fellow TIAAers. So many people have reached out to offer kind words. I just wanted to google some things and stumbled on this forum. There have been so many tears and questioning my abilities this past week. And to find out people are lying and saying we blatantly violated company policy and that’s why we got cut, is so awful. This is just so mean.

Hi, appreciate the clarity on this, a lot of people have been talking about the coffee badging and who knows if it’s all true. Sorry to hear that you were let go and I hope you’ll find something better soon!

Hi all - I just got cut on Monday. It was a layoff, not firing, so I don’t appreciate people here implying that I or the others who got laid off were not abiding by corporate policies. We were in TA and our roles got eliminated - most likely getting shifted offshore or just not being backfilled at all since we’re in an external hiring freeze still. We weren’t impacted for “coffee badging”, none of us did that. It is insulting and just plain lying. The severance package is standard, if not slightly better than I’ve been hearing about at other companies who have been RIFing lately. I’ve been here almost a decade, so I’ll get a decent amount of pay, and I’m also eligible for a portion of my bonus this year. Again, the wouldn’t have done this if we were fired for coffee badging. Being in HR, I haven’t heard of anyone getting dinged for this. Don’t go doing it, I’m just saying, it probably isn’t happening. It’s people here taking us who were impacted by a RIF and making offensive stuff up, trying to start something or scare the rest of you.

@gq this was all mentioned at a team dinner a couple of years ago (about the parking garage door). so a few of them aren’t here anymore but this was before the firings - due to Accenture and teams being eliminated. A couple of people mentioned they did only every once in a while when they needed to get back home for the day. They are still here and I don’t think they coffee badge, nor do I know how recently they’ve done it.

I know quite a few that coffee badge in NJ, agreed that NYC would be more difficult. Personally I see it happen all the time in Friso

@fh I agree with @g4 and second their comments as folks did that there before the WFH years and switch to hybrid.

As for Denver. It was basically the same since 2022 well actually more like starting in 2024 with the switch to hoteling desks. You could go weeks without seeing a teammate. Easy to coffee badge and leave or work on a different floor anywhere in building only some floors counted as a badge in though.

Obviously later in 2024 with the news of the closure it was even more rampant. Empty desks everywhere. Only a select few worked 8 hours or more in the office. Friday’s and even Mondays were literal ghost towns.

Of course now is probably even worse with the latest wave gone and even closer to July for the remainder to be gone, but I’m not there anymore to see it.

So don’t bring up Denver most teams had a 30 day (or more) grace period of not having to come in before their last day.

I’m calling bs on a lot of this. 6 hours? My a-s most of the company would be gone at that point. It’s probably the bad apples who are doing 1 or 2. Either way, a lot of what gets written on this board is either false or just lazy losers who complain about everything. This seems like it’s blown way out of proportion.

@g4

Those people still do that or have they been fired already?

@fy

Supposedly it's for those under 6 hours, but agreed it's unclear. So if I averaged 5.5 hours, I'd get fired? This is all on HR honestly, why leave the hour requirement ambiguous? At least tellus straightup what the expectation is

@fh in Charlotte, you can swipe at the side door and just turn around and leave. Or just up the elevators at the floor doors.

Heck, there’s even a door to one of the buildings in the parking garage. I know people that used to drive up, leave their car running, swipe it so it turns green and you leave.

In the Charlotte office, most business groups reserve desks daily and hardly sit near each other. I sometimes see people daily, then won’t see them for two weeks even though we’ve both been at the office.

Very unclear what those who got fired did. Did they just swipe in and leave? Only work for an hour and leave? Two hours? 4 hours? When they left did they go home and work or just take the rest of the day off?
What about all day meetings with no lap tops allowed? Is that now frowned upon?

I am quite confused.

I still don't understand this mass coffee badging thing. I don't know how it is in Charlotte or Denver, in NJ & NY it would be close to impossible not to show up in the office for at least 6 hours 3+ days a week. You cannot just swipe and leave. People would notice right away. Most teams sit together, and in some cases right next their immediate and/or senior managers.

Must just be charlotte because no one in my office even heard of this, let alone was dismissed.

@bs the current firings are mid 2025 to eoy 2025.

I hear they’re gonna do it again with similar date range. If you coffee badged a lot last year, you can assume you may be gone soon (not meaning “you” specifically)

@br They send managers the reports right before telling them they’re going to cut the employee….i don’t think you will have any time or room to push back….you should tell all your employees to start coming in full day….although it might already be too late…they are looking at everyone……

Anyone know if they’re still looking at past coffee badgers or are they focused on the “active “ ones that are still doing it?

How did an OP question about layoffs turn into, yet another, conversation about coffee-badging firings? There is obviously a difference between layoffs and being fired.

@bq

Sheesh, I mean it does sound pretty harsh without giving a warning. Do you know for what period they tracked when they fired the person you know?

by

Post ID: @bs+1kky1q4xe

Are they informing managers before hand or just straight up setting up meetings with the managers and the employee and terminating them?

As a manager just want to know what to expect.

Post ID: @br+1kky1q4xe

@bp from what I’ve read here and heard from a couple of people, no warning. But maybe others did and aren’t on these boards. A guy I know that got fired for doing it told me that his manager told him that HR said it was a blatant and repetitive violation of policy.

How are the hours tracked, being on vpn?

by

Post ID: @ah+1kky1q4xe

They were coffee badging…managers got reports of them swiping their badges but being logged onto the intranet for less then 2 hours….HR scheduled last minute calls with all of them and laid them off on the spot. If you’re still coffee badging you've been warned….it’s in the latest mandatory employee training…….

Were they given a notice period? For the recent Marketing layoffs, they gave everyone a 90 day notice period
