It is really unfortunate that you are expected to pack up and move with no type of contract to recover costs when they kay you off in 6 months.
@ev
ATT may still offer relocation packages. However they offer them when the market is extremely competitive (That's definitely not the case in today's environment). Also when bringing on board senior executives (This is typically done routinely for key executives throughout most companies). Occasionally middle management may receive a relocation package, but they're usually done on a case by case basis.
Often the recipient of a relocation package may be required to sign an intent to stay (like a signing bonus), meaning if they quit before an agreed upon date, they will be responsible for paying back the full amount of the relocation package.
Ask yourself if you fit into one of the categories listed, if you don't you probably will not get a relocation package. There's a lot of talent out there looking for a job and corporations today realize they don't have to offer perks like relocation packages to add or keep people. That's just an unfortunate fact.
@dn T prob came in with cash in duffel bags or money in an account through 8 different shell companies. I wish I was joking.
Not relocating is someone personal choice. But if company pays for relocation then only relocate, in that case its difficult for company to fire you once they pay for relocation, means did someone spend company money without any vision, in that case everyone is questionable. That is the reason AT&T doesn’t pay for relocation. They want you to spend your hard earned money, so they don’t need to bother even if they fire you after relocation. So, don’t move without getting relocation package. Then you will be safe.
"Costed"
What?
Why are posts kept on being deleted? Layoff.com team, you guys need to be laid off, NOW.
@bp
Interesting that 75% of the employees still rejected the incentive even though the company was offering a relocation package. So clearly the issue was not that VZ offered them relocation money,
the problem was the employees refusal to relocate because a) they didn't want to move to a new city, b) they didn't feel comfortable having to start fresh finding new friends, dentists, doctors, c) they simply rejected change.
This means that even if T paid for relocation, most people would reject the offer. Look at the reaction to this post, as an example.
I think the difference here between your situation at V and what’s going on at T is Verizon paid for you to relocate, T refuses to spend a dime.
I don’t think people are losing anything, why risk that much money for a company that could care less about you.
Before I worked for ATT, I worked for Verizon. Several years ago our Verizon location was slowly phased out. Our team was given the option to relocate, on the company's dime. 75% of the office opted to quit rather than relocate. I chose to relocate. Many of those people lost years of career growth and money because they didn't want to move out of their comfort zone.
"there’s more Jobs in Dallas than NYC, NJ, Chicago, Los Angeles?"
There are. Just not at T.
Since T hasn’t told when to move, can we move to a home in the current home state until things settle down? School season is up soon.
OP: My coworker relocated from the west coast to Dallas. His wife had a job in their home state so she didn't quit until she secured a new job in TX. They didn't sell their house, but rented it out instead. When he moved, they rented an apartment short term, to see how things would work out and figure out where they wanted to live long term. His advice was, test the waters, try to minimize the financial risks and avoid hating everything.
I go to both the Dallas and Plano offices here. If they ask you to move here it is just to get people to quit.
We don’t have desks or parking within reason and you will find that out pretty soon. Property management is incompetent at all levels. Even with the desk and parking shortage they expect 8 hours a day which makes the whole thing ridiculous. It’s like musical chairs here - whoever cannot get a chair for 8 hours a day would violate the RTO policy.
I would recommend you to do exactly what’s in your job description and not one bit more.
Fu-k moving for stankeys ego. He is a stupid son of a bi--h
Good news OP, the first language of most of the Dallas employees is also Hindi. You will fit right in.
@ad there’s more Jobs in Dallas than NYC, NJ, Chicago, Los Angeles? I don’t think so pal. Nice try.
@ak my skill set is pretty outdated
@ak I like the place I live but it’s too expensive compare to Dallas or Atlanta.
If you are thinking of moving to Dallas before you get tapped on the shoulder to do so, you should stick your head inside a toilet and do flush
I have kids and not forced to move yet and wife’s job may not be transferable. So it’s a leap of faith to the unknown, either DFW or just stay put.
A lot of folks will encourage you not to move. What I would say is there are a lot more jobs in Dallas than where you are moving from.
When I moved, I sold my house, the wife transferred with her job to Dallas. We rented an apartment for 6 months so we wouldn’t be pressured into having to find a house right away.
Also, if things didn’t work out, we are not trying to sell a house we just bought.
If you have kids where you live will make a difference. If you don’t, then there are a lot great places to live.
Same. Don't do it for this company...if they truly valued you and your work, you wouldn't be forced into this type of decision. Plus, Dallas su-ks...don't move there.
I may not have a choice and I don’t think they would pay.
Don’t move until company don’t pay for it.
Don’t move for this company.
My tip is don’t do it. It’s not worth it.
