Network tracking on work computer?

Anyone hearing a rumor about moving to track length of time laptop is connected on-premises to a USB network (not VPN)? Been hearing this in unrelated areas over the last few weeks, but it seems far too ‘big brother’. I know they can already track every moment on it, but I can’t imagine they’ll micro-manage this much to ensure RTO compliance to the point of tracking length of time on network. Anyone know more about this to confirm if it’s true?

This whole thing is stupid. Measuring for the sake of measuring. Many managers monitor team bubble color and “manage by bubble”.

I tether laptop to phone 100%, and put team status offline 100%. Manager knows what I am doing and I relish the thought of the bubble discussion. He won’t touch it because it will confirm monitoring tools.

I am not being reckless because of a financial windfall. No one is the wiser and am hoping each day for the severance.

I thought Sapience is only for contractors.

@cb Sapience. It also tracks when you hook up to VPN.

Sapience HCM starts at $5/month per employee and is tied to how far they want to put their nose up your a**. So $4.2M/yr minimum.

My manager asked me why I only worked 4 hours one one day the prior week because software showed only 4 hours total working. I said I was in meetings.

She asked me what meetings? I said, the one you forwarded all the invites to me for because you needed a SME on the call in case they asked a question you couldn’t answer.
The same meetings that you hear me talk.

So stupid, all because if you are in a meeting and aren’t click click click, the software say you aren’t doing any work

@bn the productivity tracker doesn't account for the hours spent in meetings either. So if you're in meetings for 4 hours and don't do much for clicking in other programs it says you didn't work that whole time.

Does anyone know the name of the workforce productivity software? Or a name of a process that I would find in task manager?

Smart leadership would simply install punchclocks. Simple, cheap, no special software needed.

The workers will feel more devalued and voluntary (unregretted attrition) increases!

“Lean into” that!

Maybe they should focus on cloud migration and the millions down the toilet vs worrying about how long a person is connected to the network.

@ap you already have workforce productivity software monitoring you and installed on your work computer. I'm not sure what more they could put on that didn't already have the ability to track everything you do on your computer.

They could start looking for any little excuse to mass replace with outsourced labor by firing instead of layoff using these kinds of metrics.

"You didn't type enough words on your computer today, you must have been slacking off and not stuck talking to all the random people in the office or got pulled in meetings. You are an automaton with a simple job that does not require you ever stop and think."

I heard the same thing that next year a piece of software will get deployed that will track when you're connected to an office Wi-Fi router or office wired connection, as opposed to a home or coffee shop router.

They will enforce 6 hours in the office minimum on your RTO in office days.

They are also going to continue more rollout of workforce productivity software.

All of this is per someone who I trust so we will see.

I don't know what a "USB network" is, but I'm guessing you mean the local office network.

It's possible, but it'd be a logistic nightmare to keep track of the MAC addresses with people, all just to make sure someone is in the office.
