Exactly.
In a public company, the only people that continue to make more no matter what are the people at the top. This is why they pay them so much in stock options. They have the power to make decisions to move the needle on the stock price and that is all that matters in the end.
In private smaller companies you are much better off as long as you have a decent person at the top and that almost never lasts.
I’ve been at several large companies, no one ever thinks they make enough and companies always ignore any questions around compensation because they don’t care what you think. As long as they still maintain enough talent to make it work they will always pay you the minimum they can and still keep you as an employee.
