How's this okay? Why is it so accepted that employees are disposable, like we're automatons and not actual people with families and feelings? I know many will say "it's just business," but how does that make it better? I'm just so tired of this sh-t. Retirement can't come soon enough.

Government is owned by that very same corporations. We are not voting our way out of this by design. If you want chat, open any history book for inspiration - only one measure works through the entirety of human history.
I’m a conservative but this is where I’d like to see government step in and provide more protections. I’m 56 with a kid that just started college and another starting soon. This is 2nd time Oracle has laid me off. At my age I’m worried I won’t find anything soon and I can’t retire. They gave me a lousy two months severance this time. In Canada it’s more difficult to get rid of employees. Meanwhile Ellison is now the richest man in the world and they wouldn’t ever give us a raise.
@ax Not formally in my org at least.
In 2023 we got a very sorry no focal email.
Nothing so far this year.
@ac No focal, bonus or raises was already announced
Looking forward to the formal announcement of no focal and the justification reasons when our dear leader is one of the richest people on the planet.
Still waiting for that trickle down effect....
I agree. I was laid off after 25yrs, and my elderly parents live with me. My husband's job doesn't offer health insurance, and I have MS, so I'm super stressed about possibly having to stop my meds. I feel traumatized by this whole situation.
