@he WOW this should be more widely circulated. I mean, we know corruption in healthcare is rife, but still - always wondered how the useless FN is given so much power at elv

@bh - “There’s a little office north of Cincinnati where this was standard practice. There’s a reason why some fought so hard to keep it around $$$”

Was? That office still has an active patronage system. There’s a reason you see Staff VPs handing out Staff VP titles to direct reports, and it has nothing to do with business acumen.

@he Well, doesn't that explain a lot. Thanks for sharing! Anyone else in similar circumstances would be out on the street by now.

@OP - Read the book "When McKinsey comes to town"- the book alleges that Elevance's leader for Ethics (FN) has a questionable ethical past. Excerpt from the book "In the mid-1990s, McKinsey worked with a formal partner, Gary MacDougal in pro bono for the poverty study in Illinois, and later won sole-source consulting contracts with $75 million. Also Felicia Norwood arranged to pay $63 billion to seven managed care companies for expanded Medicaid program without legislative oversight. Four of the seven companies were later acquired by McKinsey clients. Six months later, Norwood left her state job and joined Anthem, a McKinsey client."

I’m waiting for the news on Stephanie Uder’s exit from Elevance…less than a year. The revolving door is moving upwards.

I would argue this same thing is happening here. I had a manager who was hired because she was best friends with the Staff VP. She technically “works” I guess but wasn’t/isn’t management material at all. All she wanted to do was have people talk about their personal lives in meetings I was trying to get solutions for actual work. She’s probably not kicking a portion of her salary back to SVP but being unqualified is just as bad imo.
