Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Nobody is safe from this

Please don’t believe people who say this will be based on performance or value. We all know that’s not true. This is about numbers and nothing else. If your number’s in their sights, you’re gone even if you’re the most valuable and experienced person on your team. They don’t care. We’re all just numbers to them.

@c4 varies across functions. I know plenty below sgl18 making that or higher. Different orgs have different scales. One's sgl 18 could be another's sgl 15.

If you don’t have direct reports, are not directly associated with operations and have a base that is in the ballpark of 170K your name is going to light up like a Christmas Tree. This I can tell you and Merry Christmas.

Highly paid individual contributors first, overpaid mid mgmt directors second and then a free for all of randoms.

@bh so very true. true in work and true everywhere else in life. relationships and politics matter most. “numbers” and facts can usually be rationalized if you like or hate someone enough.

False. I received an org chart in my email yesterday and it shows a number of people who are safe.

There is truth in your post. It’s not altogether that simple. There are other factors at play as well. Who has expressed interest in. Who is mobile or not. The mobility game has been played both ways. I’ve seen positions offered to people who couldn’t or wouldn’t move and denied severance . Don’t underestimate the power of personal relationships, preferences and politics. That can also cut both ways depending on whether your benevolent sponsor makes the cut or is transferred somewhere. Safety nets can disappear quickly. And yes all those factors can result in not keeping the best of the best.

I am not sure what you mean by number. Like my salary? My employee number? My phone number?
