Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Layoffs delayed

AI isn't working as well as Mike would like. I hear 2026/early 2027 layoffs are delayed by 6-12 months. Mike is not happy. 115m dollars is being deployed to consultants to "make it work".

Open positions will be filled in India. Very few will be hired in the USA

@st failing to complete or pass a PIP may lead to termination, but it generally does not affect your eligibility for unemployment benefits. Unemployment is usually denied only if someone is fired for misconduct or violation of company policy. Poor performance alone typically isn’t enough to disqualify you

AI just means hire Another Indian

@st When will PIP be an alternative? Will managers be able to replace when someone takes the way out?

If anyone is refused unemployment benefits for not meeting PIP goals, Chevron will get the bejeebus sued out of it.

It was announced with the new rating system. Now people will be provided a low rating that will result it the person being put on a PIP. You will be given the option to improve by meeting the PIP goals, if you do not meet them the PIP goals you will be terminated for cause. No severance no unemployment benefits. The other option will be a small severance and unemployment benefits if you take option 2 you are better off because the PIP goals will not be attainable.

The next big layoff for retirees will be in 2030

The layoffs have nothing to do with AI. Like many other companies chevron used it as an excuse to lay off employees and there are lofty goals for AI but not tied to layoffs

That’s kinda racist.

But actions speak louder than words and MW and MN are just counting up the short term winnings at the moment.

Chevron can't innovate. The only 'AI" we're going to get is "Abundant Indians" through ENGINE. Chevron tried making data science a big part of our work and it never amounted to much. We couldn't do renewables. We couldn't do hydrogen. We couldn't do CCUS. AI will turn out the same. We can drill oil and refine it - and not much else.

I have heard the opposite within the HR department. HRLT is getting ready for many more layoffs as AI is advancing far more quickly than they were planning.

If layoffs were coming again, shouldn't it have already been announced?
