Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do promotions even exist within WFC?

Or do they just keep bringing in external hires every time a managerial spot opens up?

M3s sometimes are promoted within. M4 and higher tend to be whoever the new mgr brings in from their old workplace. For P5/P6, it is hard to get to P5 and near impossible P6 the last few years.

I no longer fault the org for not promoting to Managerial level from within. Especially if the potential promotee has been here a long time.

Step back and look at us, its a cess pool of complacency and lack of drive. It has been for a long time as well. Look at the complaints here and think about your own personal interactions with others at the bank and tell me that's a bad observation? Now tell me why would it be a good idea to promote some D-Bag to carry on that garbage mentality?

You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. When that line is drawn you lose some "good" and you gain some "bad", but now you have a clear starting point. So do some good people get hurt, unfortunately yes. So you adjust and move forward, internally or externally.

Not since Chuck came on and hired all his has-been friends who were too inept and incompetent to remain employed at their former firms. “Hey, come over here! I’ll hire you! Gotta outnumber all those ‘team member’ cultists somehow. I don’t understand them and they’re just so scary!!”, said Chuckles, his voice shaking with fear to ever be found out to have always been a useless, massive , worthless fraud.

You need to think about it like this. Managers at WF are no longer hired for their experience, ability to listen and communicate and decision making ability. They are hired because they show the most motivation to let people go.

The people I have seen promoted here have had a connection or known the hiring manager of the promoted job. If you don’t have those connections you won’t get promoted here

You are the exception, not the rule. Plenty of counter stories of people doing just that and getting sc--wed over the years by mergers and reorgs. Now this bank is dead set on hiring from the outside. The "promotions" I have seen are the internal people they hired from the outside a couple years ago.

they happen more often then you think. the trick is though that you have to advocate for it. Coming in and going your job isn't going to get you promoted. constantly talk with your manager, ask them what you need to do to get promoted, make sure you are getting visibility. I've been promoted many times over the years and have promoted many people over the years.

In over 20 years here, the only time I've ever seen a promotion was when the person getting promoted was a friend (political or social) of the manager promoting them. AFAIK it's more difficult than hiring new.

The bank doesn't believe you should be promoted just for being good at what they ask you to do.
