People make sure you document everything during conversations with managers. It’s obvious they are making it uncomfortable for all of us and they do not want to pay out severance. Annual reviews are taking place shortly and they need to dish out a % of NIs. This is how they start putting the wheels in motion for terminating for cause. Document everything!!! Ask your manager to put items in writing!!! Protect yourself. 2026 is going to be a very challenging year for all of us. They simply want a toxic work environment so we leave and they keep the money.

Someone on my team received an NI yesterday and the manager did indicate to her in a roundabout way to start working on her resume and apologized up and down. A lot of these managers are faced with a daunting task because who is actually motivated to go above and beyond here these days. Terrible environment they created
M / M for the year; survived another one, da---t.
@am Are you talking about NI (Needs Improvement)? Or inconsistently meets? I would say if there is a NI rating i would assume that you are also placed on a PIP so i don’t believe they would hand those out to a strong team to make the number. Inconsistently meets yes but not a NI. A lot of people are getting IM automatically if you show you did not meet RTO minimums
@d8 I’m sorry. I’m going through this now.
Details like that are usually LOB specific, in my experience. What may be true for your group isn’t necessarily true for everyone else.
Just got my meets for year-end, so I guess I’m okay for now. Good luck out there y’all.
Why would they communicate IM or NI ratings earlier in the cycle than the Meets or Exceeds?
@a3 I can confirm someone I know got an IM last week and their manager confirmed that not everyone can get a meets.
@ba If you rejoin the company after a 6 month break there will be no former performance ratings available. IM doesn’t prevent you from posting internally. However, why would you even want to come back here?
Midyear=IM. 9/30 - displaced.
This after many years of exceeds or meets. New manager, new upper level manager. No loyalty or care that institutional knowledge was being sent packing. No care that superhuman efforts had been exerted in major IT initiatives for successful outcomes. Absolutely - direct manager has input or control. Although, I think upper level has same. Been there, done that. I'm a veteran now of their process.
Everything is coming from the top leadership on down to the lower level managers....lower level managers have no say in it. Coming from a manager!
@a5 MBA educated and here for 26 years. SAD!
@a4
Same here, 20 years in,
Maybe in your group. I have 14 directs and zero NI. I do have a couple IMs, and there absolutely was BS pressure to increase the number of them, but not NI.
Remember seeing footage of those low-level na-is getting people on the boxcars? That's a Wells Fargo manager. They will look you right in the eye, smile and lie their fu--ing faces off. No compunction. Just soulless servants of the Corporate Feudal State.
@a3 unless you're about to get laid off on the 20th
I was displaced in December (non-working thru February), my boss admitted that they chose me to take the "does not meet" because I'm no longer with the team even though there was some definitive slackers on the team (but they are in a location). I guess I'll never be allowed back at WF after years of exceeds, more recently meets even tho my leadership stated I was an exceeds, and now I'm a scapegoat for needs improvement.
I got an IM due to not meeting in office requirements when I broke my foot.
I think some of you are missing the point. Someone on your team will be getting an NI. That’s the bottom line. Saying maybe you su-k at your job is irrelevant. If you have a team of 10 and everyone is considered strong, not everyone is getting a meets. That’s the bottom line. I know this because I’m a manager and a damn good one at that. It breaks my heart to see what’s happening here.
Perhaps you simply su-k at your job?
Being on this site -and web in general- during the day is obviously a sign of issues...
@a3 100% not accurate. I was the first on my team to be reviewed, got meets, and someone after me got an IM.
@a3 well that's just flat out wrong
PSA - THEY ARE NOT DOING THIS BASED ON YOUR ACTUAL PERFORMANCE. Do not beat yourself up! HR will not protect you. Your IMMEDIATE MGR is lying that they tried to save you! Please how stupid do they think we are to fall for the lies. It is gas-lighting to the EXTREME! IT IS a directive to "RANK and YANK" by a chauvanistist rasist leader stuck in the 80s. I know because I am old enough, experienced and MBA educated.
I got a IM today for my low activity report even though I did the same amount of work or more then the rest. Been here 26 years first bad review I’ve ever had
According to my sources, if you get IM inconsistent meets or NI needs improvement , they already would have communicated this to you last week.
If by now, no communications, congrats , you are either “meets” , “exceed” or “consistently exceed”
