Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do you have to be next to your supervisor?

Jeremy said the next wave is us sitting next in the same office as supervisor otherwise we are fired even if we are in a designated different hub. Heard anything different?

What if we are designated Dallas but supervisor in ATL? Are we sc--wed?

I have heard the same thing about the location with supervisor. Likely apples to Atlanta with supervisors in Dallas.

What if the majority are in one hub but they asked our Mgr to move to a different hub? Makes absolutely no sense unless you are saying they plan to get rid of the majority of the Team.

Doesn't sound great since a lot of the lastest jobs listings in CSO are in India.

@ba
It seems clear that the objective is to consolidate all CSO employees in Charlotte by the end of 2026. This looks like a strategic 'two birds, one stone' approach: it drives natural attrition to reduce the workforce while ensuring that remaining staff are working in person with their managers.

Every employee below the Big Stank has a target on their back. You only saving grace is that someone else takes the bolt before you do.

Yes, but you are also sc--wed even if that's not the case.

Completely depends on your leadership and organization.

There is NO consistency and never will be, that is the T way.

@cf "I just maintain that it’s highly unlikely they would let my entire team go, at the same time, based on the impact to the business given what we’re working on."
Stop kidding yourself, it has happened before & it will happen again.

“ Why can't they? They essentially fired people not being in hubs no matter how good they were and how "irreplaceable" they thought they were”

I shouldn’t have said “can’t”. Of course they “can”. And I don’t think I’m better than everyone that was laid off prior, though I am sure I am better than “some”. But it’s not about “me”. I just maintain that it’s highly unlikely they would let my entire team go, at the same time, based on the impact to the business given what we’re working on.

Legg reminds me of Grover Dill. Grover Dill was Scut Farkus' toady sidekick in "A Christmas Story", need I explain more.

They essentially fired people not being in hubs

And liar Legg said during one of his town halls, no more than a few weeks before they started telling people to move or lose their jobs, that they wouldn't tell anyone that they had to move. All would be handled by attrition and then they'd backfill in a hub.

It's simply more of Legg's when his lips are moving, he's lying.

And they really can’t fire all of us that are not sitting with our supervisor. As that’s everyone. And they can’t do that for the foreseeable future based on what we’re working on.

Why can't they? They essentially fired people not being in hubs no matter how good they were and how "irreplaceable" they thought they were.

Don't pretend you are so more important than the ones they got rid of for no logical reason, other than to cut the workforce.

“Where it’s going” and “anyone today not sitting with their supervisor will be fired” (per the OP) are of course not the same thing.

So many teams (including mine) are geographically dispersed across the country. Actually none of about 20 of us sit with our supervisor. And they aren’t in Dallas or Atlanta, either. We actually had a couple backfills because of all of the work we have, and a few people are retiring. They HAVE made it clear that they want those positions to be filled out of Dallas (or ATL). So you could see a situation where we get some letters saying we need to move. But that hasn’t happened. And they really can’t fire all of us that are not sitting with our supervisor. As that’s everyone. And they can’t do that for the foreseeable future based on what we’re working on.

I don't want my supervisor know how little work I am doing.

To quote the Rolling Stones “under my thumb”! Who would have thought that in 2025/2026, we would have devolved to such an arcane management approach.

Jeremy said the next wave is us sitting next in the same office as supervisor

Actutally he did say something along those lines. He said they would be looking at the reporting structure and hold organizations responsible. Then again, Legg, is a classic liar and "exception" maker where it suits him.

This is 100% where it’s going. Some orgs are already implementing it.

CSO is only hiring in non hub Charlotte and overseas even tho most of the org isn't there.

Do as we say, not as we do.

Let's see if they fire all these new hires...
