Thread regarding Optum layoffs

So which one are we supposed to fear? Dec or Jan/Feb?

I’ve heard so many different versions of what’s coming and when that I can barely keep track anymore. I know we’re in trouble. It would just be nice to know what’s ahead so we can at least try to prepare.

@g0 Yeah, SD just bounces around the stage like a court jester at town halls. IMO he’s sent out to entertain the group before SH rolls in and ki-ls the vibe with non stop bloviating.

December 18th lists have been turned in and will occur. More RIFs then each month January, February, March and April

The once a prior once a month occurrence is likely out the door as the scramble to off load staff with no true master plan on top of continuing reorganizations.

Sad state of affairs. Those who can are getting off this sinking ship

Lists have been submitted for December. We will see if they follow through before the end of year or pull the trigger in January.

@d6 the ironic think is SD isn’t even a good tech guy. Most people in Optum Tech think he’s a clown. He doesn’t know the first thing about technology let alone how to run a tech organization. He’s basically the king of meaningless buzzwords.

@am, I need you to clarify—are you absolutely certain that’s not what’s on the TikTok clock shop and the x page?

@b4 read the exceptions within the RRP policy. It's paid out if you're part of a RIF AFTER Jan 1st.

The chaos is ongoing it's intentional. Meant to freak you out, break your mental state and get you to quit. Layoffs will continue weekly as teams are consolidated/eliminated.

Leadership has zero strategy only basic single PPT slide worth of goals/plans. It's wild west and bizarre power grab. Rather than a planned, orderly shakeup, SD is totally out of his element and as the typical tech guy doesn't know how to navigate business or personal relationships.

But, because he has some power and PC is only a figurehead but is still there, the company is in freefall and without a rudder. He's also cutting with a machete

I also heard RRP is going to be near-zero for the lucky few and zero for the rest. Stock awards are going to be 8-12 shares if lucky or zero for most who usually get them.

This is for rank and file, not 32+

@b7
Not true. It will be the lowest RRP funding since 2009 but it won't be zero.

@b0 hi sadly I don’t think that’s accurate. I know someone who was laid off in early Jan 2025 who had worked all of 2024 and she left with no RRP Bonus for her entire 2024 service year.

@aq Just need to last until Jan 1st after that your RRP still has to be paid out if you are RIF'd

Yep every week or every other week it is either employees or contractors getting let go. They have to pace them out just to be able to notify the people in time as there are so many on the RIF lists. There will still be some larger ones to get people off the books before bonus/RRP time.

This place isn’t going to do an Amazon or Target style mass cut. Every single Thursday they cut dozens to a hundred or more people. Sometimes more. But it’s every single Thursday. There is no major 50,000 person layoff planned for say January.
