Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Unappreciated and unnoticed

Once again the last to leave the office.
Staying late to pick up the slack for others.
Why do I do it? Why do I care?
No one notices. No one rewards.
Left behind and looked over.
Managers and VPs don’t shake my hand.
Do they even know I exist?
Feeling sad. Forgotten. Unappreciated.
If we are ExxonMobil what am I?
Not part of the club. Alone.

OP, stop doing the extra work for free. Otherwise, your extra free work becomes part of the toxicity in this xom rat race.

@16m you clearly work at EMHC. Those of us outside of Houston do not have the option to just clock out after 8 hours

@f5 Nice straw-man you made there.

I do my 8hrs and log off, because that’s what the company pays for. I sell my time and skills in the job market to buyers (employers) for a negotiated price. I give the buyer exactly what they paid for, and the buyer pays for exactly what I gave them. This is what’s known as a business transaction.

Anyone doing more than that is giving the buyers something for free that they didn't pay for. The buyers become entitled, then expect every seller to provide/do the same. More product, lower cost, less value returned to the seller. Also distorts the market in general.

I’ll be more than happy to provide more if the buyer pays more, but I’m not giving product away for free, and you shouldn’t either.

@n9 Im sure you already know a wealth advisor can beat your trades easier and with much less body odor. But I get it, cubicle life is emasculating and talking stock tips with the other desk dorks all day is the only time you feel like a man. But tell me if you're such a trading master shouldn’t you have sufficient passive income by now? Strange and weird flex for someone who keeps showing up to the same desk he claims he 'doesnt need'.

@f5 several colleagues of mine use the time for our investments. We share technical analysis and trade options. Glad that you keep the operations running! Keeping our salary coming!

The amount of value destroyed when company went to war with employees cannot be calculated. They think they are getting the same value? So much missed opportunity. Treat us well and we will treat the company well.

Yup i stoped caring a few years ago. 20 years ago I would stay late and go beyond. Now i get no recognition raises or love. Exxon treats me like sh-t and they get sh-t from me. It all changed when I turned 53. I don't stay more than 40 hours per week. I have seen employees working 30 or less hours per week that have been promoted or at least not nsied. The game is unfair so don't play it. Exxon plays dirty and employees are especially dirty, evil, and treacherous. They will sc--w you over in a second.

To the “time-for-money” crowd, why does someone else’s work ethic bother you so much? You’re already at work. The hours are spent either way. So if you want to sit there dull, dead-spirited, scrolling your phone and mumbling through meetings, fine. Be that. But why mock the people who actually care? Some of us enjoy solving problems, building spreadsheets, writing code, drawing diagrams, making something better. We like getting lost in the puzzle, forgetting the clock, coming home a little smarter and brighter than before. If I had to go to a job just to fake work, I’d die of boredom. For some of us, it’s simply easier and more fun to engage. Whether the boss notices or not doesn’t matter. The joy is in creating, learning, and getting paid for it all. It’s like school that pays you. Only a dummy would show up just to go home having done nothing all day.

@bk I second that. I am sure we have encountered situations where colleagues that should not be in the NSI category are there, and wondered how some of them are not in NSI. (They could be the spouses of some hi-flyers, a friend or someone that has special treatment often not work related).

Only su-kers will say doing the right thing without anyone noticing is good. It only gets you to NI category… soon you will face the gallows.

@ag If there is a god then it should be begging humanity for forgiveness.

Take the sermons over to Gateway/Lakewood churches. I’m here to get info on layoffs.

@b7 He’s not wrong.

Those of you who keep doing free work are warping expectations, depressing compensation, inhibiting hiring, and justifying layoffs. Do us all a favor and knock it off.

@av work smarter not harder is the most abused phrase out there. Often there is enough work that it requires long hours no matter how smart you work. People like you who don’t see that are the problem.

@ag lol… God… reminded me of this lady that kept telling me about foot print in HBF! lol… grow up. No one cares and it is just business. You are paid for your time! That’s all. You need comfort and assurance, go get some paid companionship or go back to your mama’s place lol.

No such thing as God sees you. Lol. Delusional colleague at deserved to be piped my God himself

It is all about viability! Work hard so what.. what is what you are paid for. Working. Late? Cause you are inefficient! Work smarter not harder!

God sees you. Don’t worry about the slackers and status seekers. Many of them only show up for meetings and try to look smart but they’re the d-mbest ones of all. Xombies feeding on attention and never on substance. Its better to be someone of integrity, doing your work because it’s who you are, not for applause. Never wait for validation from blind, stupid, selfish people; they can’t recognize light even when it’s standing right beside them. Let the Maker deal with them. This life is temporary, a short test. Keep doing what’s right, not what’s noticed. The unseen still matters.

Oh honey, don't be sad. I am also here, unappreciated and unnoticed, not in any club, 31 years in. I stopped seeking validation from the company many years ago. They can't see you, and you don't want them to... just cash your check
