@b5 H1-B's are not cheaper, that is a myth. There are lots of hidden costs for H1-b'a; first one is that they must get a salary hike every year to maintain their visa, secondly their relocation from say India to USA runs at least a min of 30K USD and 3rdly, after three years they can be sponsored for a Green Card for the whole family which could go up to 70K which the company pays for.

@c5 The covid hiring spree temporarily boosted demand for coders and college hires at FANGS and other places were paid handsome salaries. I have been telling people to stay away from tech, only to be told that someone they know was making bank as a coder. If you look on glassdoor you will see that it's a different story now, with people laid off a year ago still looking for work.

Get US students a playing field..make college education more affordable.

US unis prefer taking international students as they pay more tuition fee approx double..

Perhaps students considering expensive college educations shouldn't commit to commoditized fields like IT? The bloom came off that rose long ago and students who continue down that path (or their parents who encourage them to) show an obvious lack of imagination/foresight. There is plenty of good opportunity in the bioscience and other related hard sciences and little or no outsourcing or cheap labor options.

American tech and non tech companies need a large pool of fresh cheap blood to replace expensive dinosaurs; that’s why H1B program exists; it will only go bigger even with the current administration.

In addition, cheaper H1Bs help transitioning job outsourcing more easily to India using native language during countless hours without complaint and resilience; at the risk of deportation if they don’t outperform
