Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Who got the relocation letters today?

Who got one? Please indicate if you are market based , centralized or an HQ employee. Seems to be a lot of confusion of who got a letter and who didn’t but was supposed to

If you live in NJ all you have to do is lie and say you’ll move. Work the 18 months while interviewing for a new job.

If you’re unable to find employment by the deadline, they’ll still owe you severance because it’s guaranteed by law.

They cannot revoke your severance by law in NJ so long as they lay off 50 or more employees in NJ within a 90 day period.

Just sue them, and you get the best of both worlds. Severance and 18 months employment.

I got the letter , Instead of me having to report to the closest hub they have me going to Dallas .. Crazy..

The letter only says that i have to report by 6/30/27 if I say yes and if i say no I will be told 14 days before my end date but there is NO END DATE SPECIFIED....

So my options are

1) Say Yes - Relocate ( Not happening)
2) Say No - Train my replacement , Take the 6 months severence and have no idea how long I will be working. Could be 18 months or 2 months
3) Say Yes - Get 18 months of guarenteed work Plus another yearly Bonus. Sc--w the severence, sc--w the Knowledge transfer or training of replacements when I leave.

If they had given me 6 months The Answer would be clear to take the Severence, he-l
If I was actually given an end date I would likely take the severence but the problem is that once you say "NO" you are low hanging fruit , if they need more bodies to sacrifice your an easy pick since your already gone. They would rather you depart early then need to let someone else go they don't have to.

The severence is a big chunk of change to loose but its a gamble either way . If I say No I feel I will be gone in 2026 . Thats the ATT Guarentee , your Guarenteed to be sc--wed one way or another.

but the X factor right now is the horrible job market.

In a previous "move or take severance" they dragged someone along so long that it was hard for him to interview based on the supposed layoff date given because they kept changing the date so he couldn't give anyone an availability date in interviews (and leaving before it risked losing the severance which was the reason he said no in the first place). He ended up with almost as many days working as had he said yes and not moved--plus got severence but that situation didn't happen to everyone. They wanted him to stay but the stupid blanket policy and him not being in a hub didn't allow it.

Anyway, when he finally did let go, that's when he finally could really start looking.

It's a sign of a stupid company that can't do anything to keep good people they want to stay because of stupid policies like this (and they hired him virtual in the first place but later said that wasn't good enough anymore)

“ So if you stay and don't move you're basically working that last year for close to half pay“

You have a strange way of looking at things. It may change, but the X factor right now is the horrible job market. Most would rather take the guarantee of the paycheck here than head into a prolonged unemployment situation. Which has happened to many let go over the last year or so.

"You get more saying you’ll move and then not doing it."

Yes. But you can get 6 months severance for doing nothing. So if you stay and don't move you're basically working that last year for close to half pay.

I know of 2 in Atlanta, both told to move to Dallas. Neither are planning on going.

@b4 you can either take severance at 6 months pay or work for 18 months. You get more saying you’ll move and then not doing it

They’ve figured out the answer to the problem they created. The problem is no retiree healthcare severely blunts the pace of attrition. Moving to Dallas is a non starter for most and then there’s the severance payment they are trying to minimize or reduce altogether. Pretending you’ll move takes away the severance cost.

Received my letter today and been comparing notes with peers. Letters and RTO criteria is largely dependent on your project work, business need, and manager location. Performance and loyalty no longer matters.. I’m aware of 3 scenarios, all need to decide by early March date:
1) NVW located in KNL working priority projects to move to Dallas by 12/31/26;
2) NVW not in KNL move to Bedminster by 06/26;
3) MS not in KNL working ‘high-profile’ project to move to Bedminster by 06/27.
All 3 scenarios are dependent on management chain and project work.. same VP org

I know of several people who got the letters. Have til March to say yes or no to the relocation. If yes they have til 6/30/2027 to move. If no than layoff will occur no later than Sept 2026. I alos know of people told their letters were delayed (with no explanation given). So yes the letters will continue. For those whose new location is less than 50 miles, we will get some notification in the near future with our new reporting location and 30 days to report.
