Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Hiring from outside yet surplussing

My AVP team just hired from the outside a month ago and just surplused two others (without performance or attendance issues) -- both in Dallas.
Yes... both surplused employees over 50.

Make it make sense!

its to save money, or a political regime change, or both.

Nothing personal to 50 year olds, but when you need to get rid of the competition, 50 year olds trimming 50 year olds equals less competent 50 year olds to compete with the incompetent 50 year olds. look around you. the 50 year olds left are the non competitive ones

“Employees in Dallas are being surplussed. I though moving to Dallas meant you were safe . .”

Not if the employee is an underperformer.

If someone is characterized as an "outlier", that will put a target on their back.

"Leadership believes that there are no jobs at AT&T that require any significant knowledge or training to perform"

Yep -- AT&T is a commodity company and Stankey thinks we are an assembly line employee.

Younger employees are cheaper and cost far less to insure. Hiring H1B visa employees has the bonus of AT&T holding their right to stay in the US in their pocket, which is the closest legal thing to slavery. None of them can talk back, complain, or quit without fear of being sent back to their home country. Leadership believes that there are no jobs at AT&T that require any significant knowledge or training to perform and that a workforce of psuedo-temps is a winning strategy. Everything that has happened in the past 2 years is a strategy to legally remove older employees and replace them with new-hire psuedo-temps or simply not backfill. That is where we are as a company.

“have you seen 99% of the management policy, or read 99% of the scathing 8/1 email the CEO sent out? Could that possibly be why the employees have this attitude?”

Trashy employee attitudes on this site have been on display for years.

Have you read 99% of the comments from employees on this site? What would you do if you ran a company and had the employees with the attitudes , admittance of doing nothing (which is stealing) , morals and ethics as read on here? Ponder on that and do some self reflecting.

Hiring externally is the only actually effective way to bring about a culture shift. Unsurprising direction under this delusional Stankey leadership.

T surpluses ALL the time and backfills with offshore or contract workers, much cheaper.

They have been doing this for years.
