Thread regarding Optum layoffs

AI layoffs, H1b and US citizens

Has the government done any analysis on the potential impact of AI-related layoffs with its rapid advancement over the next 5 years? I’m guessing around 75% of H1Bs may not be needed. When will the emphasis shift toward prioritizing US citizens and Permanent Residents?

@Fz It's not racist to notice trending. that's what the job requires. Remove your feelings and address the facts.

@OP Indians have no critical thinking skills. Ironically, the company wastes more money on salaried employees going round and round with IT/Helpdesk/Employee sites arguing with Indians who can't understand " I can't close an issue" IT: send a screenshot closing the issue. Can't do that since its physically impossible. I'm convinced Indian workers are just NPC's at this point designed to lower payroll.

Also just for reference, if you're mad about IT it's not an H1B issue. They're in the Philippines. If you were dealing with an Indian contractor it was very likely an offshore employee of whatever engineering group they assigned the ticket they couldn't help you with to.

@bw Our helpdesk with its offshored IT isn't going to help you with sh-t. They will run you through the same song and dance every time and do zero troubleshooting of their own, open a ticket for you with zero information in it, and have it assigned to whatever group they decided is tangentially related enough for some person getting paid six figures to be pulled away from their actual job and forced to look into it -- and ask you the same questions because again, the offshore IT person provided no information in the ticket. Been like this for a few years.

@b4 Fair enough. but when Offshore can't mitigate a simple problem, thats an issue. I fixed my own, and the IT person wanted to close the ticket. Nah fren, you didn't root cause/fix it. The response to me not closing the ticket was " so you fixed it, then close the ticket" after i notated said ticket that the person was not helpful on guiding me with a solution.

Indian workers are useless. People who have been here since the beginning saw it. Now it's just going to tumble down. Eventually the higher ups will realize it and make the turn toward UD workers- just need to let them fail for now.

@b4 The harsh reality is that corporate greed lies at the center of this issue. Americans are forced to be both consumers and victims at the same time. These corporations show little loyalty to the country or its people—only to their own profits. They exploit AI, offshore jobs, and cheap H-1B labor to maximize earnings, then use that wealth to influence politics and shape governance around their own agendas rather than the public good.

@b1 TDS can affect even the brightest brains. Luckily there’s help! Try new “TrumpODol”! It eradicates the effects of even severe acute cases of TDS! Try it today!

@av The jobs will go to Indians whether they're H1B or not. If anything it's cheaper when they're not in the US. I agree the H1B system has been horribly abused outside of its intended purpose but to pretend that we aren't building more GCCs in India as a result of the clamp-down on H1B visas is foolish.

And now Trump is talking about giving citizenship to everyone with a US degree, and has done nothing about straight offshoring of IT/tech jobs. Fearmonger all you want about what the Dems would do, but they don't care about us on this issue either which way.

America just basically gave China the upper hand on AI with the UAE agreement the Pedo-Embezzler in Chief just signed. China will gladly pay for US IP.

The government has literally said it will be hands off on AI regulation and AI oversight. They wanted to ban all state and local AI oversight last summer but thankfully that provision was not enacted.

The government only cares about keeping the AI bubble going for the leadership and elected officials’ own portfolios. They do not care about you or AI taking jobs. Same as it ever was.
