The LinkedIn posts that make me scratch my head right now are the “my team is hiring” posts. But we all know this place is not the best at planning…

This is nonsense. Other people do not need to hold off or be muted when they are celebrating. You having a hard time is your problem, the world does not stop for you.
@c0 should people be posting this week while stuff is still going down? No. But 90 days is ridiculous. LinkedIn is nothing more than a living breathing resume and self branding tool and we can’t fault people for using it like one. At some point we have to accept that full grown adults are responsible for their own emotions and feelings and seeing someone else get a promotion when you were laid off was just the luck of the draw. In 95% of cases neither person had any say in the decisions that were made, but are 100% responsible for reconciling their fate for themselves.
@b1 most coaches and etiquette resources would say 90 days in the new role before updating LinkedIn. Get established and build relationships, then make the update. That gives time for everything to cool down, full exits of those who’s HC the promotion was swiped from, and enough time for you to establish yourself before perceived bragging begins.

I’m pretty sure HR is encouraging leaders to encourage their people to sell their promotions online so that Nike looks better than it would if all that is making, the news is layoffs. LinkedIn vibes following this year’s layoffs are wildly different than last years.

let some time pass first on the promotion celebrating, be a supportive friend first to those people you know that are laid off.
It matters and helps.
Why care this much? It’s ok to be happy for your achievements and be sad for others’ misfortune. It’s just a tough part of life.
