Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Ever wonder why they use the acronym RTO for two completely different initiatives?

They use RTO to mean Return to Office from a WFH position, but they also use it when they move your job from one state to another and essentially displace you from them, giving you the ultimatum. Move your entire life to where the job went, or you’re no longer employed.

Obviously these are two different things, so why use the same term?

It’s a tactic. They want to hide the fact that they’re moving jobs away from employees by intentionally conflating two separate things.

Why use tactics like this? When you know what you’re doing is wrong and will be looked at unfavorably. That’s our leadership.

Isn’t RTO a medical procedure at AT&T? I think R stands for rectal. We all know what T stands for right? You know T for tonsils and then there’s O? That’s the one I’m unsure about? I think it stands for or-l something Hey but the takeaway is Stay Away and don’t get an RTO!!!!!

This has been very frustrating because they actually distinguished the differences in past actions.
WFH = Work from Home
RTO = Return to Office
FTW = Follow the work (your job is being moved to another office building or city from where you currently do the work)

RTO means come int the office like you did pre covid, they were never WFH positions.

This is incorrect. Most of us in Service Manager had been officially WFH since 2008 due to the requirement for us to be available 24X7X365 for our customers. We were sent to the office last summer 5 days a week but still required to be available 24X7X365.

The whole process of RTO deception was well thought by Stankey and his minions. Time will prove that it is another fiasco like all previous T initiatives (T Mobile, DTV, Time Warner, etc). Stankey failed so many times and proved he is terrible strategist.

Why use tactics like this?

Because they can, because there's no laws protecting employees against deception.

HR also calls office workers "supervisors" and "managers", despite a large portion of L1/L2 workers not falling under NLRA's definition of an actual supervisor. It's an anti-union tactic designed entirely to deceive you.

The company also engages in an information war against their own employees. Changes are never communicated to employees, and the toilet pipeline of passing the steaming hot sh-t from leadership usually involves the management chain, unless they are desperately trying to contain rumors from spreading.

Zero two-way communication. Zero trust on both ends.

It's like a really bad relationship that's headed towards a complete collapse.
