Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Being honest gets you nowhere!

I was laid off Monday — in a 30-second phone call.

What doesn’t make sense is watching people with multiple ethics violations in a year keep their jobs. I guess being close with HR has its perks.

It’s frustrating when the people meant to protect confidentiality don’t, and when accountability seems optional. Those of us who try to do the right thing end up paying the price.

It’s disappointing, but my integrity is something no one can take from me. I’ll be okay — and I’ll always choose honesty over politics.

he said she said. There are always two sides to every story.

It is not unusual to feel like a victim when you are let go. It sounds like you were in a unhealthy work environment and do not like or trust your colleagues. People do sense when someone is mad at everyone around them, and make you an easy selection when casting someone off the island.

But I do encourage you to share your concerns with ethics ASAP. You might think they are a joke, but they will look into whatever you report.

Unfortunately, layoffs are about cutting that are no linger needed/wanted. There are many reasons why you got laid off: here are the usual reasons: 1) redundant and some one else id better; 2) high-cost low performer and someone else can do the cob cheaper/faster; 3) non critical area were unnecessary work can simply be eliminated; 4) hi potential young person has the capacity to do the work of 2 or 3 people because he/she is computer enabled...in future AI enabled 5) square peg in round hole...you are just in the wrong job and not very good at it 6) trouble maker/non-team player; 7) key boss does not like you; 8) cannot be re-trained

@aa I absolutely have proof along with countless other employees. Calling the Ethics group is an absolute joke!

@OP If you have evidence or special knowledge of ethics violations and you believe that made you a target for layoffs you should consult a lawyer before accepting the severance terms.

@OP I feel for you, in the most recent weeks, I've heard of a lot of stories, but like you've said, they sweep it under the rugs due to relationships.

Corporate has always been a relationships game unfortunately.

Wishing you the best, I know it's hard to hear, but remain as positive as you can, DON'T LET YOUR THOUGHTS CONTROL YOU. Life can be WAY worse, just keep reminding yourself things will be alright
