Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Manager Comments

1 on 1 with my manager today and he made 2 comments:

  • Confirmed another round of US cuts the first week of December.

  • No input on who will be cut from the lower levels - higher execs making the decisions based on whatever metrics they see (which are usually garbage).

Enjoy Thanksgiving because you may get roasted that first week if December!

The person that posted this does not even work in Oracle. But we know who you are.

It’s now the 2nd week of December, looking OP to comment on the 1st week of December layoff rumor.

@v1 A former employer laid off an entire team over Christmas break. When the rest of us returned to work after New Years we found out what happened. To say we were shocked by that callous choice of time was an understatement. And it was our understanding that they were riffed just a day or two before Christmas Day. Feliz Navidad!

And this wasn't at some small outfit. It was at a large firm run by the LE's late pal, MH.

@a2 LOL I was just let go mid last month. They don’t give two craps about holidays or what season it is—or how long you’ve been there or how big the deals you closed or worked on.

@bs we were told back in March that more “changes” would happen in May/June (after layoffs happened right after Q3). Those did happen. Then, more happened and kept happening. I was let go last month during that round of layoffs. Not sure why anyone commenting is questioning this. They’re going to keep up with laying people off. Sure, maybe you’re safe for now, but they don’t give a cr-p about you in the long (or short) run

January/February for support engineers in all groups. Fusion and all...

One more quick comment (I'm the original poster). Yesterday during a meeting, my manager openly made a comment that we needed to have all of our documentation updated by Thursday (tomorrow) because next week "Management is meeting to look through the metrics and time tracking, and will see who is busy and who is not."

I think everyone on the call just about messed their pants when he said it. Couple that with my comments in the original post, and I think the rumors of the first week of December are starting to fall in line.

Of course the joke is that all of the data in the time tracking tools is garbage - entered by the very employees that you are pushing to look busy.

This is in the US, Data Platform Team for those that keep asking.

Some see the signs, some ignore, that's how people perceive. no one is right or wrong. Its just perception and personal belief that shape our reality.

Support engineer would be impacted again in second round a cross all level and management. Honestly what's the point of asking if you will be cut, d-mb questions, you are just a number and you will be eventually let go. My only advice is to skill up on something that is in demand. Everyone is targeted at O.

I'm the original poster and I can tell you that this conversation did take place. I don't have the details anymore than what I posted, but I will say that the group is Data Platform in the US. I'm not trying to spread false rumors - only trying to share some information that I received. Accurate or not, detailed or not, informative or not, this conversation did happen.

We all know there's no sane reason for how you get picked for the RIF. I personally am preparing with the assumption that I'll be on the list.

Didn't mean to upset anyone - just figured I'd share some real information vs. all the cr-p that is posted out here.

Huge AI infrastructure gold rush investment is happening across the tech industry , not just Oracle ( example Meta, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon etc…) creating an employment tsunami effect not seen in years, maybe decades. Lot of people predicting an eventual bubble the way it ended in 2001; until then “hold on to your seat”!

@b0 seriously, let it go, it won’t make you feel better by spreading false rumors. Talk to family or friends more and move on in life.

Why you think it cannot happen ?they actively nee to save money to invest billions of $ to invest on Ai infrastructure.

Metrics are being generated based on data gathered from your company notebook usage.
