Thread regarding PNC layoffs

Medical Accommodation

I had been extremely worried about the five day return to office due to my medical conditions. My manager told me I had to go through ERIC, so a couple weeks ago I reached out to them. I was sent a form that I had to have my doctor complete. Once the completed form was received, I was contacted to have a meeting with an human resources representative. After that conversation, they schedule a meeting with your manager to discuss a modified schedule.

I must tell you that this process has been very easy so far. The reason I am posting this is because if you have a medical condition supported by your doctor and you need to limit your days in the office, it’s very much worth your time to contact ERIC and put in the request. If you’re someone that just wants to work from home because you don’t want to come in, that is not going to be a valid reason based on the form that your doctor has to complete.

I have been worried sick about this whole situation and I was really put at ease during this process. I just wanted to put this positive information out for others who are employees that may be concerned. I hope this information helps someone.

@j6 The Americans with Disabilities Act lists physical and mental conditions that would qualify for accommodations

Asking out of true and sincere curiosity: Besides a clear mobility issue, what would qualify one for a medical exemption from being in or coming to the office? Maybe someone who has been approved or perhaps has evaluated requests can help us out here. I think some people will likely try to abuse the system, but more importantly there may be people who would qualify but won’t apply because they think it wouldn’t get approved. This is a sincere question, not your typical “get off your couch” rant. Thanks.

@e9 agree. No one should go this route if they don’t have an actual need for it. It is nice to see so many people having positive experiences with the process at least.

@e9 exactly. I agree. Requesting an accommodation when you really don’t need it is simply dishonest. I have a lot of medical problems in my older age, unfortunately. I’d never thought this would happen to me, but it puts my mind at ease, knowing that PNC understands my struggles. I hope I am fully approved when the process is complete.

I would be careful with this unless you really need it. My last company laid off numerous people who had medical exemptions for rto, even if they were mostly adhering.

@aw once the paperwork is received and reviewed, I would think that they would reach out to you. Wait and see what happens and go from there.

One thing I’ve found about PNC is a truer sense of employee care than prior firms. Glad to hear of your positive experience so far and frankly, I’m not surprised. My HR partner is excellent in his fairness and knowledge of the laws and policies surrounding all kinds of things. Good luck with your application.

@bx my apologies, I wasn’t asking what medical conditions they had I was just wondering if they knew the accommodation requested. This is the first forum where it has provided the most insight so I was just wondering if anyone knew what has been requested and approved or denied.

@aw seems like human resource representatives all handled it differently, but the end result will be the same whether you’re approved or denied.

@az i’m not even sure why you would ask that. I honestly don’t think it’s anyone’s business what our medical conditions are.

@az no I’m not sure of her condition. I don’t know her well enough to ask. Actually I think she applied a little after me now that I’m thinking about it. I know quite a few people who submitted so I’m getting them mixed up. If you’re thinking about submitting I would suggest doing it sooner rather than later just to be safe

@aw do you happen to know what accommodation they requested and received?

Correction - neither coworkers are on my direct team but I have worked with them. Not sure if team matters with the process

@a8 it seems like there’s no real rhyme or reason to the process. A girl on my team had her accommodation request approved before I even had my HR conversation scheduled and we submitted to ERIC on the same day. Her HR Rep was so easy going and didn’t ask much while mine asked a ton of questions. I know another girl who didn’t even have a phone call with HR, she was just emailed the paperwork.

As far as my request, I know that my HR rep has not spoken with my manager yet so I doubt that it is fully approved.

I’m not in human resources, but I do know there is an over abundance of these types of requests. If they didn’t mention they would reach back out to you and it’s been that long, in my opinion, I would just reach out for an update and ask if there’s anything else that you need to provide. I’m not sure how long this typically takes. The decision is ultimately yours.

Hi, I’m in the process of getting an Ada accommodation as well. Is yours still in the process of being approved or have they come to a decision yet? I submitted my HCPQ to my HR rep 3 weeks ago and have not heard anything from my mgr or HR yet.
