Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

14000 Layoffs Confirmed

While this will include reducing in some areas and hiring in others, it will mean an overall reduction in our corporate workforce of approximately 14,000 roles. We’re working hard to support everyone whose role is impacted, including offering most employees 90 days to look for a new role internally (the timing will vary some based on local laws), and our recruiting teams will prioritize internal candidates to help as many people as possible find new roles within Amazon. For our teammates who are unable to find a new role at Amazon or who choose not to look for one, we’ll offer them transition support including severance pay, outplacement services, health insurance benefits, and more.

Some may ask why we’re reducing roles when the company is performing well. Across our businesses, we're delivering great customer experiences every day, innovating at a rapid rate, and producing strong business results. What we need to remember is that the world is changing quickly. This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet, and it's enabling companies to innovate much faster than ever before (in existing market segments and altogether new ones). We’re convicted that we need to be organized more leanly, with fewer layers and more ownership, to move as quickly as possible for our customers and business.

If only American consumers pulled the plug, STOP BUYING FROM AMAZON the consequences would be seismic. Amazon’s retail machine — which draws roughly 70% of its sales from the U.S. — would implode. The stock would crash, warehouses would go dark, and millions of sellers who built their livelihoods around one company would face chaos. Factories across Asia that churn out Amazon goods would lose orders overnight. The global ripple would be swift and brutal.

@az this lady needs to be laid off, incompetent. Instead of using the "convinced", she is using the word "convicted". Even if this is a typo, just lay her off.

@ay "Hard working" does not necessarily mean "competent".

If you're still looking for people to lay off, I can give you the names of a few completely useless AWS Client Support Engineers that it has been my misfortune to have worked with over the years . . .

Here's my take -
If every massive company in the world had to mu---r 100,000 people in order to retain their position of dominance and historically unheard of levels of profit, they would do so quickly and painlessly, and they would target their competitors customers.
If every massive company had to mu---r 10,000 of their employees in order to remain competitive in the market, they would compensate affected families fairly significantly, but would weigh the payments against shareholder profits so as not to make any significant difference whatsoever to the bottom line, and if they could find one more corner to cut on top of that, they would, just to signal shareholder trust.
If every individual in charge of a company such as this could sell off the souls of their friends and families (let alone mere strangers, despite any fact they may have given half of their life to the leaders mission), and thus damning them all to an eternal afterlife of torturous nothingness, I believe that they would at the absolute minimum need to hear out the offer and run the math, for their own position in life, as well as their bonus, and their fantasy of enslaving the world, depends on it.
