Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Layoffs - what to expect

Forgive my ignorance, but this is my first layoff, so I’m not really sure what the procedure is. This is what I’ve gathered so far:

We will receive the WFH email on Friday. Then on Monday morning, those being laid off will receive an email. Within 15 minutes, their system will be locked. After that, they will receive 2 months of paid leave and after that severance, which is correlated to how long you’ve worked at Nike.

Just trying to prepare as needed since this market is awful.

How did you know that already? I only got the message not to come into work Thursday night when I was getting ready for bed.

There was a GC VP that was exited recently as well, they are looking for a replacement in tech

@et VP departures are always "voluntary", it's a bad look for someone so high up on the food chain to need to be fired or "let go". If one quits without a retirement or another job lined up, it usually means they were quietly laid off. Look at how bad the terms RAT left on, his departure was still "voluntary"

@ay that’s correct. There was no wfh email prior to my layoff. Just a last minute meeting set up within the hour of receiving the invite.

VP (that I know of) was IK in game. Last day is this Thu - which means org activation email will likely come out on that day too with meetings starting next week

You get to hear a fake adios from one of the Nimrods, and you are all set! Send the laptops back, and collect money, and most importantly, if you are not planning to retire, start looking for jobs where you will expect to be fired again, I mean, don't sell your loyalty to whoever that is ... Just work, and move on!

Folks being terminated will have those meetings on their calendar either Monday or Tuesday. Any meetings after that will be about re-orgs. This is how things where historically.

when your Sr Dir sends you the invite titled "Organization Alignment" just kindly decline the meeting and propose a future date in 4-6 weeks.

Move any personal files/documents that you have on your company laptop that you need after being let go. Make a note of this folder, you will have to provide this to the IT team for them to provide access after your termination.

DO. NOT. COPY. ANY. FILES. FROM. THE. COMPANY. OWNED. LAPTOP. TO. ANY. OTHER. PLACE.

you’ve got the basics. There are variances from this though. Sometimes folks in roles that are just changing get the meetings first. The time of day your meeting is scheduled for is not indicative, mine was late in the day. Sometimes it takes days to get through them.

the idea of a VP actually being affected by the reorg fills me with too much hope, don't deceive me like this

He’s not wrong, just heard a VP in Tech is leaving. Not 100% sure it’s reorg related but that would be one he-l of a coincidence.

It doesn’t always work out this way, but the earlier in the morning your meeting is, the more likely you are being cut.

Severance is based on a formula. The formula takes into account your years of service and your grade level. The maximum amount of weeks is capped for each of the grades. For example, a grade 40 with 10-14 years of service will get 20
Weeks of severance. Additionally, to get around WARN notice requirements, they may set your actual termination date into the future(and you will get paid regularly until that date). Thy will also pay your benefits via COBRA for 6 months . While getting laid off su-ks, the package is usually fairly generous

I think that is mostly right, the timings may be different, wfh email could be earlier in the week, who knows.

in the past the emails titled 'activation touchpoint' are the ones, and they are 15mins, not sure who is on them, likely HR and a director/vp or just HR

they did the layoffs mon/tues then org changes wed/thurs/fri....that could change though...I think last time we had the 'all clear' by midweek, then you knew it would an org change at most....which could not be great, but at least you still have a job

That sounds about right. Except sometimes it takes them days to get through all the layoffs, so I wouldn't expect them all to be finished Monday necessarily. It could take the entire week.

Assuming we do get the wfh email on Friday as rumored
