Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Manager making treats to work harder!!

It's total nonsense. My manager reviewed my workload yesterday, and I've received 40 percent more work since we lost five members of our team. But he indicated I need to close my SR faster since we are under more secruinite and my metric doesn't match his standard. Wtf

I don’t see the point in working harder to improve our team metrics just so my manager can look better to his director.

I’m not putting in extra effort; where’s my pay raise? What’s the point when this company is laying off people? I’m just here to collect a paycheck until I find a new job.

My friends were let go despite being high performers, and I have no desire to go above and beyond for this organization. It really feels like a terrible company. Is the moral low in other team?

I told my manager I can only do what I can and there is nothing else for me to improve. He was not happy but who caresssss…

Don’t say NO to your boss unless you’re already FIRE. A manager can set you up by placing you on a Performance Improvement Plan as a way to force you out. These tactics are often used to retaliate against employees.

@bk Lollipop? I suppose it’s just a cookie. As they say - no raises this year.

Your manager is probably being yelled at by his manager
And this trickles down to problems for you!
I would ignore it and work as before, if they complain either hire more people or fire you because you have "low performance"
Just be ready to be the next one. People say skill up, etc, but I say just make sure you have emergency money to live on if you need to cover costs - if you can ofc.

The typo in the headline made me wonder if the manager was offering donuts or lollipops as an incentive to work harder.

@ax The beatings will continue until morale improves.
A very common saying at Oracle indeed.... ;-)

Can you train AI to find you a new job?

"you need to train AI on the low value tasks that are time wasters, in order to free yourself to concentrate on higher-value work. "
I think you mean... in order to free yourself from your job here entirely? They said the same thing about BizProcess & IT Outsourcing in the 2000's - it's so you can focus on what you do best... then they fire everyone in IT. Delulu

I was in this position about 2.5 years ago, I got a new job with a massive raise.
There’s hope but start looking NOW.

@OP You aren't accountable or responsible for the issues caused by the headcount reduction.

People weren't chosen based on performance ratings and your employer isn't offering an incentive to take on additional tasks or work extra hours.

Just tell your manager that you are delivering what's achievable with the current resources.

They can catch the heat and the fallout.

I'm getting bad vibes from you and I'm thinking like maybe you aren't a team-player?

Yep, you need to train AI on the low value tasks that are time wasters, in order to free yourself to concentrate on higher-value work. That's what my team is doing. IMO more important than ever to prove that we are team players.

Your manager is probably telling you what we've heard so often lately too: Use AI to work more, faster! That's why we boosted your expectations AND our excuse for firing so many, because AI auto-magically does it for you. Just yesterday my own manager used AI to answer a technical question he didn't understand - answered the ? w a bunch of em-dash SLOP that made no sense. No one even said "huh?". It's become a game of charades, soon AI will be asking AI why AI didn't code faster than the engineer it replaced.

Next time when your manager loads you more work and tasks taken from your laid off teammates, show him astonisment, as per uncle Larry exposee: people is not needed - AI will do everything and redirect your manager to AI. That’s the point! 😁

How come they want you to do more work when AI is supposedly solving every problem magically already? Tell your manager to just ask AI, perhaps he didn't get the memo.

Are the engineers using that new interface yet? That's supposed to be heavily using AI to resolve SRs, probably why they laid off engineers when everyone KNOWS we don't have enough.
