Thoughts on the 1199SEIU union? Can it save jobs from being outsourced or is it too late?

I was part of a union years ago and will never do it again. Unions are not “for the people “, it’s a business that provides a service for “the people”. My experience: 1. Anytime we got a cost of living pay increase or a new contract across the board raise there was also a union dues increase that offset any additional take home pay. 2. It was also very interesting to see how wealthy the local union officials somehow got in a short amount of time. 3. If the company had to lay off employees due to financial adjustments there was nothing the union could do to stop it, there were just contractual rules on how it had to take place. 4. The last straw was when I witnessed first hand two high level senior executives and the union president together partying it up together at the same resort I had taken my family to on vacation. It’s just another sleight of hand political system that takes money from the people to enrich those that “represent” them.
@gc Totally agree with you
A union will put a stop to the games they play and lies they tell.
I see my union comment was ratioed. That's ok, I fixed it. >:)
@av
The modern American economy is not “free-market.”
It is a managed economy for the ultra-rich, built by dismantling the only institution capable of stopping them: organized labor union.
Unions weren’t destroyed because they failed workers. They were destroyed because they worked too well.
For decades, unions were the only force powerful enough to counter billionaires, corporate lobbyists, and captured politicians. They raised wages, protected workers from abuse, and forced corporations to share profits with the people who actually created them. At their peak, over a third of American workers were unionized. The middle class was strong. CEO pay was reasonable. One income could support a family.
@av Gwtting a union is UHC will put a stop to the s#@t they are pulling. It will be worth the union fees. Unions are for the people.
Maybe call center and so on. Anything salary they will fight for a decade noting these are professional and skilled roles, while hurriedly moving them to India or Indonesia.
I ain't fu--ing paying union dues, fu-k you.
