Why US companies prefer H1-Bs

Indian-origin Howard professor Ronil Hira, a well-known critic of the H-1B visa, explained why U.S. companies favor the program.

Despite President Trump recently signaling a need for certain foreign talent, his administration imposed a $100,000 fee on H-1B hires, thereby sending mixed messages. Hira noted that many H-1B workers possess ordinary skills that are available domestically. However, employers prefer them because they can be paid less and are bound to their employers.

While some highly skilled workers do come via the H-1B program, it often fills roles for reasons of cost and control rather than genuine skill gaps. Hira emphasized that H-1B is fundamentally a labor policy, not an immigration issue, and criticized its weak worker protections, which make it particularly attractive to Silicon Valley companies.

  • No alternative positioning or recompiling prior expertise, JUST LIE. I guess I really am old as I expect to act with honesty and integrity*

You're never going to get a job with an Ind-an company with that kind of attitude, buster!

I highly recommend web searching an article titled "India: It's Worse Than You Think".

Written by a person who grew up in Bhopal, it can fill in some blanks for the uneducated.

@av "In general I can agree with this comment. However, their ability to lie is usually truly extraordinary. If that is a job requirement, then I can understand a desire for their service."

LMAO...Today, Tata contacted me for a role that is in my realm, but required 7 to 10 years of experience using and configuring a specific 3rd party app I have 0 experience in. After asking me to interview for the role at 50% of my prior salary, the recruitor asked me to resend the resume and include a line showing 1 year of experience in implementing the app. No alternative positioning or recompiling prior expertise, JUST LIE. I guess I really am old as I expect to act with honesty and integrity...then again maybe that's why I was impacted by the layoff.

There is a town in North Carolina, a suburb of Raleigh known as Morrisville. Per the 2020 census it is 46% Asian and I'll guess that the percentage has grown since then. I'll bet most are H1-B's.

  • Regular H-1B workers and the Low-Cost H-1B workers are not the same, and the distinction matters

  • H-1B are not for software professionals only

  • Times have changed. Highly educated Asians are now wealthy and have better opportunities in their own countries

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@av Why is O transferring managers on some kind of visa to the USA? We have plenty of managers here. Plus we have plenty that could use a promotion and become managers. Stop bringing nasty managers from foreign countries

@av 95 percent true. The 5 percent that do not lie, they ostracize them.
