Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

ENGINE is a farce

Did you know that any workflow sent to ENGINE has to be run in parallel/duplicated for 6 months to 1 year by the team offloading it? Meaning for most of 2026, any ENGINE success will likely be due to their USA counterparts. It’s a hilarious sad irony that any work sent there will be 100% redundant (so efficient!!!), and meanwhile we have to manage the same workload as a year ago with 30% fewer people. Everything you hear about ENGINE over the next year + will be utter propaganda.

@1bf Engine will be an utter failure let it fail like they would love to see laid off. Chevron needs to buy Oxy for reserves or game is over

@OP So instead of the redundancy being a cubicle over, the redundancy has to travel just a little ways further. Got it.

I received an email a few weeks ago from another workgroup that essentially read "the Engine was supposed to have completed workflow 'X' but they didn't so we have to scramble to complete it on time." Not surprising when they advertise identical job scopes to work in the COE at 1/8th to 1/6th of the salary of what we are paid. Engine from a cost point of view only makes sense if at best the workforce is half as productive of the workforce it is meant to replace. Thus far I've seen zero work products of any value, only results that are worth of being embellished for PR purposes.

I left 8 months ago. Folks at Engine still call me at home. I blow them off. But they don’t have anyone left with knowledge and experience.

ENGINE creating a tax burden and Liability to Chevron. Indian administrators are eventually going to require ENGInE engineers to share projects financial outcomes and how much is derived due to Indian IP or participation.

Example. So simple if Big Foot has a de-bottle neck project that has ENGINE participants and creates an uplift of xxxx bopd or $MM a year…India will tax those gains.

@jj Kiwi 🥝 analogy is spot on!

But, ENGINE comes with other considerations and challenges. If idea, concept, or participation by Indian nationals on a project supporting an asset in the USA creates measurable value or revenue that Engine derived revenue needs to be taxed in India. Buyer of Technical Support centers in India beware.

Yes it's a farce and it is not because it's in India necessarily. Imagine we decided to export jobs to New Zealand, and NZ had a lot of engineering grads to hire. You would need some marginally competent plan to move work slowly there, you might even try out one function and get that working first.

Instead you build a big office and start hiring every kiwi with a pulse, it would end exactly like the ENGINE currently is, just with different accents.

@c9 That’s because if they tell the truth that it’s not good they will be out the door. LT won’t reverse course so roll with it until you find something else and are out. Many have tried to speak out but were not heard.

Nonsense statements. If it wasn’t for the American economy, the Indian IT workers wouldn’t have jobs. There may be exceptional Indian workers somewhere in the USA, but it’s not at Chevron. I haven’t met one that is my equivalent. I am so surprised H1-B visas are supposedly for exceptional skills because the majority of the Indian born workers I have met in my career are less than average skills. The most disappointing characteristic they have is “lazy” and a lack of effort. I am seeing this in the majority of MSP services that have been contracted for Chevron.

I agree with you, thanks for the call out. White US citizens do not call ourselves “ Caucasian”, the phrase is rarely used in the USA.

The results from some of the “subsurface projects” handed over by COE are total BS and the TLs are completely ok selling out their own teams and saying to management that the results are good. Completely expected.

I know for certain that for at least 2 of the projects that were highlighted in some US leadership visits to engine - the engine team absolutely took credit for the work that they barely touched. The US employees worked on it, and engine people merely attended meetings.

@b0, Open your eyes. Many people, particularly in professional and technical roles think that they have superior intellect to everyone else. It's probably over half and has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Quit playing the fake race card when you obviously have no clue nor life experience.

What does being white, black, blue or green have to do with anything unless you are a racist?

The arrogance of many of my fellow white Americans sickens me. There are so many in the company who think that they posses superior Intellect to anyone else.
There are many smarter, better educated and more innovative engineers in many countries outside our borders.

@ab this presumes it’s will be even modestly functional. When have we ever implemented something at this scale that actually worked? ENGINE is the new agile. We’ll say all the right things, meanwhile burning money and developing shadow systems to actually get work done.

@a6 I can't even tell which side you're trying to troll, but it's one of the worst wiffs I've seen in a while. There is not a single person working at this company of any generation who would go "I am Caucasian" and mean it seriously vs just saying "I'm white".

Get a better schtick / practice more

“ I think this raci..t attitude deserves to be investigated and addressed.”

You’re the reason why nothing has been getting done. You’re the office busybody that should be focused on their own role vs. the role of HR.

Your fixation on race where none was mentioned tells me that you’re the real racist.

There’s a ton wrong with Engine, but even more wrong with those that bought the bullsh-t from McKinsey.

So the employees in the US are so superior that they will be doing all the work and the folks in India will take the credit.
I think this raci..t attitude deserves to be investigated and addressed.
I am Caucasian and have work with my extremely competent engineers from India, i have also sadly experience of US engineers who believe, falsely, they are superior to all those from all other countries.
Hope you never leave the shores of the good old USA.
