Thread regarding Optum layoffs

2/19

I’m reading the layoff on 2/19 will be bigger than the one last month, and it will include Optum at Home staff that are grade level 27 and below. Anybody have information?

@h6 I can tell you firsthand: WAY TOO MANY VPs. VPs reporting to VPs, literally just so people don’t lose jobs. So inefficient. Meanwhile frontline workers keep losing jobs

@gt what is redeployment?

As for VPs there are discussion that keep getting postponed regarding wellmed. They are unsure if they need to cut VPs. Across business for sure, even tech has been considered!

@h3 can't speak to that confidently - just a (former) ic without ears in the conversations where these decisions were being made. I know at least some people secured transfers to other groups, both in and out of BH. But following the pivots late last year it looks to me like they're just deleting the whole tech group to get us off the books. Honestly, just speaking for myself, I'm relieved the whole ordeal is finally over. It's terrifying to be cut loose but at least I'm free from optum.

@gt so is the entire able to staff let go at this point?

@gs some of us were in active redeployment status at the time and those of us in that status basically seemed to get skipped over entirely during last month's RIF. Sounds like for ableto tech anyone still in redeployment is being notified today. This is on the tech side specifically, providers might have other experiences.

I thought they already did the able to/BH lay offs last month 01/23?

@gn yep got the 15 minute calendar invite and everything. Notified this AM and termed in two weeks. I'm in the behavioral health tech team, and it sounds the whole AbleTo team is being hit hard today, tech and providers. Explains why we didn't hear anything in the 1/26 round I guess

Dates-wise, 2/19 is the end date for at least one round happening today. Just got my notification this morning with 2-19 termination date.

@as I find comments like this interesting because if you look back at previous posts, the dates shared around rumored layoffs did in fact line up with what eventually happened. That’s why I’m curious what “fairy tale” is being referenced.

It’s unfortunate that many of us feel we have to come here to piece together information, but at the same time, I’m grateful there’s at least a space where employees can compare notes instead of feeling repeatedly blindsided.

Transparency and leadership aren’t mutually exclusive with running a business. You can support and value your team while still being honest about financial realities and organizational direction. Choosing not to be transparent may serve short-term control, but it often erodes long-term trust.

Recent RID’d OT. Anyone know if VP reduction is planned? Bigger savings without getting rid of people who actually do/know the work. Not wishing this on anyone, but does the 80/20 approach and focus on <30’s really get them to a sustainable model moving forward? Just trying to make sense of this circus (which is probably a waste of time). Best wishes everyone.

Someone was laid off 2 weeks ago and they posted on Sparq asking if people knew of any openings. This is just awful!

You got to love the employees at UHG/Optum. Some who are in this site continue to drink kool aide about layoffs. If you are not worried about being laid off why do you waste your time disparaging those who are and want to be ahead just in case they do lay them off. What is sad that you work for a company who does not value you no matter how much you do for them. So simple to be transparent and let managers know there are potential layoffs in their areas but instead the company has no ethics , no transparency.
