Funny how things change when leadership visits

Our group runs on pressure, politics, and people watching what they say, but the second somebody higher up appears, suddenly everyone’s smiling and pretending this is a great place to work. I never understand the performance because it’s not like executives would even care how employees are actually being treated. What's the point of the theater?

@a4 Same experience. I watched the sp-t droplets spraying all over as the higher-up spoke, thinking I was gonna get sick. Four days later I had a horrible cold.

The issue with managememt is the emergency fire drill box-checking moving text from point A to point B via CoPilot. No risk is managed, except CYA risk.

Not hating those that want to play the game, but I couldn't care less and won't engage executives. Waste of everyone's time. Don't care about raises or promotions, they can keep both. Just make sure to get me my severance checks when the time comes.

@a4 don't forget everyone has to come into the office, then they never come out and visit the floor thus wasting a wfh day. I'd be pi---d having to drive that far for nothing.

We kinda already are though doing it for nothing. Its all going to be dust one day anyway.

@ag
Not this dude.
They can troll through when ever they want, I choose not to be there when they do.

@ah and then you'll be the first to complain that you can't get promoted or get a decent raise. You got to know how to play the game.

People always pep up when "leadership" visits.

  1. They believe they have the chance to make a good impression and get ahead by being noticed
  2. Exactly the converse, executives seeing pain on the face of the masses will just think they shouldn't work here.

It's a double-edged sword that mgmt loves to wield.

Literally the only time in the 3 years since RTO that I've been in the same conference room with people on my team was the one time a higher up did a site visit. And nothing of value was said or done in that conference room, it was purely peformative, and in fact wasted time that I had to spend later getting caught up on real work

Top 25% of the company can get a job anywhere. And they're here because they want to be here

The middle 50% of the company are going to go along to get along. They're not unhappy enough to leave, and they need the paycheck. They realize it's pretty much the same baloney everywhere.

Exception to this rule: managing directors. I honestly don't know why many of them haven't retired. maybe they are afraid to be alone with their thoughts

You my friend are in the bottom 25%. you can't find another job and you're stuck here with the rest of us.

Believe it or not people behaving differently when the higher ups are around happens at literally every company on Earth. Welcome to the workforce as you must be right out of school.
