Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

My manager never has our back

It’s so frustrating when leadership throws our team under the bus. Our manager just nods along in meetings and never defends our work or pushes back on unrealistic demands. You start to wonder what the point of having a manager is if they won’t support you. It makes the whole team feel completely unprotected.

I no longer work there but when I did I was fortunate to have great managers. Director and VPs were good also. I have a feeling those days are behind us. I hope everyone has a great holiday, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or whatever you celebrate. Please be kind to each other.

At the Manager Level or higher we are now company men and have to drive the corporate goals. We have to be ready to hire or layoff at a moments notice here. But we appreciate all you do that help make our bonuses bigger.

A lot of these managers are not qualified to work anyplace else as people leaders and they know it on some level. In my decades of working I have never seen some of the absurd behavior that these people exhibit.

Elevance hires a lot of bottom of the barrel talent and those usually come at discount prices.

Our manager always had our back - who doesn't is the Director and VP level - never has and now that our manager has left the new ones won't stand up for us and the next levels just get worse. We never measure up, think we are all not doing our job its really sad. Miss the old days for sure.

Of course they don’t support you, they are trying to keep off the riff list themselves. Defending their reports would just put a target on their back. To be a manager at Elevance is to cowtow and toe the line. Most aren’t even qualified to be managers but they know if they are managers long enough they can jump ship and be a manager somewhere else.
