Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I can't lose my job

I'm in my early 50s, I have very little savings (due to medical issues), and if I lose my health insurance, I'm sc--wed (due to said medical issues). I'm not sleeping because of this and I don't know I will until it's over. All I can do right now is pray and hope things will turn out okay.

@ar COBRA is super expensive but it’s hard to get that kind of coverage on the marketplace. If you can swing it, sign up for it within the window because you can’t do it later. Btw, max out your HSA contribution now for the next 2 months. Do what you can and keep praying for better rest and peace of mind. Best wishes.

A lot of people in their 40s and 50s are dealing with self induced anxiety.

If you want to have a SAH spouse, maybe adjust your spending so that you have a big nest egg at this point in your career. You've already made more than most families make in a lifetime.

Of course, there are outliers like those facing chronic health issues. However, this is a tiny minority of of the 40s/50s population.

I worry more for those in their 20s who haven't had the opportunity to build skills, network, and hefty savings.

sorry to hear that. Also last time I got laid off I was sad but, I found a job here that was better and about 30~% more pay. So you never know what god has planned for you. Wise you well.

I wasn't saying that the guy who's sick should grow uo.He has enough on his plate. I was referring to the guy who told him to "Nut Up". Sorry that I messed up on my post.

Others are in the same position as this poor guy, so knock off the bovine caca. It's scary for him and maybe someday you will be in exactly the same spot. Karma has a way of doing that.

If you look in workday, it says if you’re laid off you should get 18 months of Cobra. Obviously not as affordable as the current health insurance but its something.

Pray someone has the ba--s for a class action lawsuit for discrimination…then get a award settlement…HR hates you and wants you out to bring in new initiatives.

Focus on what you can control and no what you can't. You don't get in your car every day and think 100% about what if you get in a wreck to the point that you can't drive effectively.

Spend your energy on preparing yourself for a new job regardless of what the outcome of CEP is for you. Silent quitting or having a doomsday mentality won't lead to career progression regardless of being competitively edged or not.

The only ones who will lose in the long run are those who adopt a victim mentality and can't recover.
