Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Dan's Q3 call was well received here..what happened?

There was a lot of positive feedback to the CEOs blunt and honest call a few weeks ago, even with him flat out saying there would be layoffs and that his plan would be ready in 22 days...which put it right around the 20th.

What happened? Did people lose their minds or did this board suddenly get filled with dummies? I'm seeing a lot of comments from people who dont deserve any severerance.

It su-ks but buckle up and push on.

@bc …interesting point. Have you seen the latest AT&T Breakup/Consolidation maps? Just a few more ”moves” and we are back to the good old days of 1983, sans crossbar switches, replaced with wireless telephones, InterWebs, YouTubes, Twitters, and the TikToks.

@ba those are all good ones. Tie some companies up in a year or two of regulatory/antitrust hassles, clean rooms, and transition synergies and put us back to 1984. The federal climate won't get better. Good luck to you.

@b3 No need to calculate for inflation for this simple analysis because the effect was the same across the industry. During the same time frame, T-Mobile was able to increase the competition and increase market share, in a relatively short time.[1] How? Here is a twist. Will the 11/20 news be something bigger than the current rumors? VZ purchasing TMUS? VZ purchasing T? T purchasing TMUS? T purchasing VZ?🤫

| Year | Employees | Revenue (M) | Rev Per Emp |
| 2024 | 70,000 | $81,400 | $1,162,857 |

@OP
Remember, we all put up with Hans for YEARS of his stupidity. BOD could've put a Dachshund in as CEO and most would've been happy.
Doesn't take long for the trust and the shine to come off these days and we've all seen that happening.
Good luck.

@ar do you want to adjust those numbers for inflation (49% total) and compare post paid subscriber growth to our competitors? Rough numbers, we had half the market share in 2010 and now we have 1/3. If there was real growth we wouldn't be in this mess.

@ar But it's not a sustainable strategy the way implemented. Hence here we are.

@a9 you asked the following, ”name one company that was able to make massive cuts and grow its business at the same time.” One such company is Verizon. Since 2010, VZ has managed to cut employees by 48.77% and grow revenue by 26.48%. The revenue per employee is improving and the Gross, Operating, and Net Profit Margins are very competitive. Don’t be so humble as it is o.k. to take a bow once in a while! Great Job! The revenue in the chart below is in millions. Data retrieved from the Macrotrends website.[1]

| Year | Employees | Revenue | Rev Per Emp |
| 2024 | 99,600 | $134,788 | $1,353,293 |
| 2023 | 105,400 | $133,974 | $1,271,101 |
| 2022 | 117,100 | $136,835 | $1,168,531 |
| 2021 | 118,400 | $133,613 | $1,128,488 |
| 2020 | 132,200 | $128,292 | $970,439 |
| 2019 | 135,000 | $131,868 | $976,800 |
| 2018 | 144,500 | $130,863 | $905,626 |
| 2017 | 155,400 | $126,034 | $811,030 |
| 2016 | 160,900 | $125,980 | $782,971 |
| 2015 | 177,700 | $131,620 | $740,687 |
| 2014 | 177,300 | $127,079 | $716,746 |

@ap , agreed! I’ll fess up. I posted a completely bogus post on here last week, just to see what the response would be. That, and I was bored! Amazed by the comments and how many seemed to believe it. There’s not much credibility on this site

I think a big part of your answer lies in the use of “here” and recognizing this site for what it is and is not. Anyone can add a response here…employee, non employee, former employee, complete troll. To read responses here and have an accurate reading of what true constituents think is pure folly. If that were the case, we’d still be discussing 💩

All of the above but I suspect a bit of propaganda on this site, immediately following the earnings calls. I heard some of my more gullible colleagues parrot what they read here. Regardless, I have since heard everyone speak about their stages of grief. This is a painful psychological experience, there will be a range of emotions, none of which are fair for anyone to judge.

On a side note, mental health is health so make sure you are embracing each day the best you can. If all else fails, meaningful work (whatever that means to you) will positively affect your mental health so don’t get distracted. I wish you all the best!

@a6 he said “there will be layoffs” on the internal employee webcast, not the analyst call available to the public.

If you work for Verizon, you can find the transcript on the internal site. If you don’t work for Verizon, then why come here to troll?

@a1 Not only does he mention layoffs, but adds that:
"It's not a one-time thing. It's going to be a way of life. "

What difference does it make whether he said it during the investors' call or the internal webcast? He made his intentions unmistakably clear when he stated his vision for a "leaner" company—one that prioritizes customer focus, keeps a close watch on spending, and reinvests whatever it saves.

How do you read that? On a side note to many on this forum blaming the previous Swedish meatball CE&O. Did you crave for an American CE&O?? Here he is, laying off and chopping headcounts like no other. Enjoy it! And this is only the beginning, because the 2026 will be even worst that what it seems.

Dan wants to grow the business, but you cant do that by cutting a fifth or a quarter, or more, of the staff. That's not a strategy, that's panic. Name one company that was able to make massive cuts and grow its business at the same time. This is gut wrenching to watch, and it will be miserable for the survivors.

I think two things can be true at once. People can appreciate a plain spoken leader and people can simultaneously be worried about their jobs.

Verizon has been very good to me. Vzw owes me nothing except the hours I put in for GNT. If I get sent down the road, I accept and respect it.

@a1 perhaps they edited the transcript. I was sitting in the basking Ridge auditorium and I distinctly remember he said there will be layoffs. It definitely caught my attention.

@a1 it was in the internal webcast. Do you work for Verizon? The day after the call there was an internal presentation from Dan where he said “there will be some layoffs”

I reviewed the webcasts transcripts. He mentioned absolutely nothing of layoffs.

You can find the webcast on the Verizon website.
