Does anyone know if the new headquarters has designated safe spaces for employees to express their emotions? In my role, I frequently interact with the manufacturing team, and they can be quite abrasive. Having a safe space to cry would be incredibly helpful, as I’ve heard that the parking lot is quite far away, making my car an impractical option.

All of C-suite in a safe space. Safe from accountability.
@14m+1km348kft Ford was a toxic culture 10 years ago. From 2006-2014 the super toxic behavior went under the radar when Mulally was the CEO. It was still there but people took it offline and the toxic middle and upper management went on stealth mode.
Pre Mulally the IT area I was in there was open harassment, bullying and flat out refusals to do any work that would benefit other Ford employees. Cross team meetings devolved into screaming matches and sometimes turned physical. Mind you the whole point for this IT area was to provide a stable IT platform for the IT applications. During the Mulally era the old timers would still attempt to sabotage other teams initiatives until it was made clear to them that they would cooperate. The particularly obtuse old timers were laid off in 2008.
Post Mulally the team devolved back to the pre Mulally state as that is what the toxic leadership wanted. The individuals who bucked the system and helped other teams were laid off in 2019.
The Ford circle of toxicity completed.
And that one IT team was not an isolated area. It was pretty much the norm.
@14m spot on, a lot of us came from sheltered lives, manufacturing taught me to swear and really toughened me up, I appreciated the experience eventually
@14d Ford was not a toxic culture 10 years ago, I think it’s the people we’ve hired as of late. As for manufacturing, agree, some are over the top, but it’s those absurd ones sure do make for good stories.
The ford lifers don't understand that other companies wouldn't allow some of this chest pounding behavior seen in manufacturing. There was some of these old guys speak to people in meetings is shocking and absurd.
That said, this company isn't for you, OP. Not trying to be mean, it isn't for most people. Many of the lifers I work with know this is often a toxic culture, but they're stuck and this is all they know.
@OP If this is a serious post, then you are in the wrong world. You should go work in a flower shop or a nature preserve where butterflies float around to the sound of new age music. You can take your puppy to work and sip lattes all day long.
The railroad overpass on Oakwood just south of Michigan Ave is where my ex-coworkers would express their feelings. I heard they moved on to a better place.
Really? I retired about ten years ago. You’d have been laughed out of the office with a question like that.
@m0 Yeah, this is quite true. I believe it’s a matter of maturity. Many of the companies we hire from are like the Boy Scouts compared to an automobile manufacturer. They put a lot of hype and cheerleading, but there’s no real action. People who come to Ford later in their careers are either low performers elsewhere and got themselves into trouble, or they’re experts at BSing their way through an interview or resume. My opinion, anyway, people need to relax and just do their job and think a bit more, not BS…. Unfortunately, the company has been run by a marketing expert who has been adept at selling his services as valuable. As a result, we have witnessed billions in write-offs due to ‘brilliant’ ideas, low morale, and employees leaving in droves. A company that once had a great culture, family values, and so on has been obliterated.
Has anyone noticed that people who started/stayed in Dearborn for their entire career seem to be more homogeneous and agreeable to the norms of the company relative to people that start out at a plant somewhere or some Ford Credit location out of state? I feel like a lot of the new hires (not judging by age) are the same way; the old Ford people tend to be pretty decent; the others seem like they're different, not always bad, but some are.
@ak Sometimes I ride the shuttle just to get away from everyone...
Oh boy California culture vs. a Manufacturing company, everyone should have to work in a plant for a month to work here.
They're called elevators. Kinda awkies when you're not alone when you suddenly start to cry and then let out a huge f@rt.
There’s the FCG kid level whining, then there’s this guy
@ed Someone needs to remind them they work for an auto manufacturer, not the rainbow alliance or the DNC.
I heard people from the California facilities have been visiting Dearborn lately....pretty sure one of then are asking about this
This cannot be a serious post…. Did someone threaten you? Did they do something to you? Or is it just that people with the guts to tell it like it is scares you? Fu-k off, grow a pair.
You need to grow a set.
Suggest you hop onto a shuttle and vent to the driver. After a while you'll feel better.
are you serious? toughen up
@a2 I asked my boss, she thought I was making a joke.
LOL. There's always your pillow to cry into at night.
You are in wrong place if you are emotional person
Maybe you should quit your job for your emotional wellbeing.
It would be safer to stay in your mother's basement!
Seems like an appropriate question for your people leader or your HR rep, not this den or rumors...
