Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

No news in the UK

There has been nothing about layoffs in the UK yet, and I have heard nothing on the grapevine about anything in EMEA. It has NOT started.

Don't get me wrong, I want it to start, and I want to be on the list. Happy to take some cash and run.

I'm sure the storm is coming, but it is not here yet.

@1ez So you are saying, If one gets layoff, he can't find/join new job during garden leave?
Really ?

@12c Technically, no. Somewhere in your contract it will say something about you not being able to work for a competitor while at Oracle (and they'll be very vague about who they consider to be a competitor) ... and that includes during notice/garden leave. If they found out (a big if), they could sack you for gross misconduct and refuse to pay anything.

Well, what if I have job offer and want to join ? Can I do that during garden leave / notice period after layoff?
Would that be an overlapping between two employers?

@11x
From my experience, it depends on the package. Some UK enhanced redundancies have included a £ amount for agreeing to not go through Consultation. Those that agreed to the package then got immediately cut off from systems but were employees for the full 30 day notice period, though effectively on garden leave. Back when I RIF’d a team, it was 15-25k depending on IC level.

An end April round would be wild for the UK, though. Well, from a sales PoV anyway. They’d either be laying off anyone who isn’t in active Q4 closure, which is misleading as you can be an underperformer with a great Q4 and you’ll survive just so you can execute, or will they genuinely RIF based on metrics and potentially de-rail q4 deals by making someone who hasn’t scored well on the RIF matrix redundant 4 weeks out from end of year?
That’s not to mention the market reaction or lowering morale throughout the org at the most important time of year for rev.

I guess CW has an extra ‘p’ in his mantra now. It stands for ‘package’ or ‘p*ssed off’

Do we ( in UK ) have to serve the notice period after layoff? Or we are done from the announcement day? I heard that EMEA announcement would be end of April.

US will be first because they are overpaid, over staffed, over confident, over rated, and because of their noisy fat tw-t re--rd orange leader, hated by the whole world

My guess based on no information at all is that, if it happens, it'll probably be mid-April. Oracle have a conference scheduled in London on the 24th March, and it'd be kind of embarrassing to bring clients over if the nearby Oracle offices are emptier than normal or filled with people returning laptops. Also there's the two weeks a lot of people book around the easter bank holidays. People would probably want their redundancy settlements to land in the 2026/27 tax year, which starts after 5th April.

@aj have you heard anything about the timing and when it might hit for EMEA? There aren’t as many rumors as usual

EMEA will be impacted, for sure ! Higher positions and those with higher income. It’s coming folks, no joke. The timing is different than U.S due to labor law.

@aa
Previous severance in the UK has been one month, plus a week for every year, but they tend to offer enhanced severance with discretionary additional payments. Packages for IC3 and IC4 that I have see have been £60-80k. First 30k tax free. This is historical, future offers may be different as enhanced packages are at the discretion of the company, not mandated.

Does anyone know how severance works in the UK?
So far no news

I’m in UK Apps sales and can’t call it. I think the process is 30 days consultation and 30 days notice if youre role is put at risk so unless they literally want the last day of employment to be last day of the FY then they need to start announcing ASAP or def before Easter. Unless they can avoid the consultation process then it’s just a straight 30 days notice, but still, got to think why they would want to put loads of pressure on HR and mgmt right at the end of the FY so surely it would be sooner rather than later? Either way, my manager is pleading ignorance, no one seems to know anything.

I know for a fact that the lists were sent a couple of fridays ago in EMEA, but it might take a while to start here ... as someone else put it somewhere else ... you can't be laid off from prison, you can only get released ... let's brace ourselves for impact :)
