Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Severance

For anyone who mentioned over the past couple of years that they were waiting for a severance package, what’s the plan now? Just curious because I was in the same boat, and honestly, the job market is rough. My current strategy is to switch things up and play the corporate game. Thankfully, I got a meets this year. I did 40% less work, so now I’m planning to step it up and do 20% more than last year, and fingers crossed I can keep that meets.

@f7 My idea will save the bank thousands of hours of toil. Sure, let's bet.

"And on the chance I don't get paid off? I've got a major efficiency initiative in about to propose that should cost other people a few jobs, which will probably push me to exceeds territory this year. "

Wanna bet?

This bank is 3-8 years behind. So people leaving/severed from this bank are at a disadvantage. @OP I would spend that extra 20% upskilling your skills -- even if you have less than 10 years on your career. That doesn't mean learning AI. I find that many people say they know AI. So they may know prompting, maybe how to improve your prompt. But do they know anything about agents? A bank is a big transaction processing engine. Prompting AI is not going to aid in this as much as creating machined equivalents with built in risk regimes. Your AI approach is critical. Now lets compare the JPM AI approach to Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo, according to their LinkedIn posts are using AI to automate and monitor the JIRA reports. This is yet another "Wagile" distortion. Also if you are a manager at this bank you basically need to reset your career. Its easier and better for you to do it while still employed. First realize that thy have made you into a facilitator -- NOT a manager. Ask AI what this means.

@ah how is @ac kidding themselves? They extended the job hunt from average to near double that average because of the fact they're targeting senior roles.

I understand downvoting them for not GAF about other people's jobs, but why hate on them for trying to survive this brutally incompetent management team?

Given the job market I think the only move is to job hug right now and beef those emergency savings up. I'm applying externally of course but not with much expectation of getting anywhere.

@ac
Plenty of experienced, education people looking for 'senior roles' and still taking months.

Don't kid yourself. Was lucky to find a ladder and climb out of the job hunting pool.

The only change I made after getting an IM this year is running my resume for ATS and being diligent in my job search instead of casual. Considering the reporting that it takes an average of 11 weeks to find something at the moment, and I'm focused on more senior roles that align with my experience, it'll probably be more like 16-20 weeks.

That should line up with a 2Q layoff and notice period so I can keep a severance, should I get one. If I get hired first, it's no real loss since I'm assuming for roles that would be a significant earnings upgrade.

And on the chance I don't get paid off? I've got a major efficiency initiative in about to propose that should cost other people a few jobs, which will probably push me to exceeds territory this year. I won't feel bad about it, I got a family to feed.
