Manager started taking lots of vaca time. The volume of work noticeably decreased. Then I got an email from my manager that I needed to update my profile info- current address, phone, etc. Said after a decade they didn't have my personal email?
At the same time I noticed the number of people allowed off per day in our department went from three people to two on May 1, which meant the size of our department would be shrinking as only a percentage of the dept. staff could be off the clock at the same time.
I sent my manager and email and ask if there was something I should know. My manger did not respond for two days and had never taken that long to respond to any emails. There was a different tone in her response, "not that I know of, lol".
Over the next couple of days there was barely enough work to keep the whole department busy. Then, a couple of days later, I got an email that I had a meeting with HR later that day.
One by one I watched my teammate's messenger lights go red (in a meeting) and within 10-20 minutes their messenger lights went blank. No "away" or "busy", but OFFLINE, signed out, gone. I texted a couple of my coworkers and asked them if they were seeing what I was seeing. They hadn't they said, but they were paying attention now.
I still don't know who all was RIF'd in our department. I don't know if my manager was just a straight up liar or if they were RIF'd to0 or even knew what was coming. The handful of teammates I was in touch with right after the fact, well, they got the info from me they wanted and then ghosted me.
HR said it had nothing to do with my performance; nothing personal. But you know, I take it pretty personal that I was strung along and most likely lied to and then blown off by people I have worked with for a decade.
