Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Will you take another job at UHC/Optum if laid off?

Curious if anyone laid off is trying to secure another role within UHC or Optum? If yes, any success with getting interviews or re-hired? How long did it take you to get rehired?

My dtr used to work for a company who hired nurses and call center employees and she said that as soon as they saw UHC on the resume they bypassed it for the very same reason mentioned here, the employees were toxic, they could not unlearn the behaviors learned at UHC and had this problem with communication of new ideas. When someone would speak up they the UHC former employee would not let them talk, they would put down what anyone else said and stifled the flow of ideas. She said they would bring morale down. We see that all the time on meetings or committees, there are those who have their heads so far up their managers butts they can’t see the forest for the trees.

Worst company I’ve worked for ever. I’ve worked for 6 major corporations. Any work place is better. The people are major backstabbers and if they go to another company you have to deal with them there because they don’t unlearn this behavior.

My response is a big fat NO. Every time I remember the toggle wars among teams, the lack of appreciation from leadership, coworkers that were replaced by offshore people just to save buck and feeling that I was next in the long list of RIFs. No, it has been the worst experience of my life.

@ag it was a mixed bag. One was less pay, one was a lateral move back to a previously held position, and one was actually a promotion. The group he was working with at the time of RIF was impressed enough that they brought him over to their business unit at a higher position. So network, don’t burn bridges. I recognize luck and happenstance is still a big part of it but it doesn’t hurt to have good connections within the company.

My husband was laid off last summer from Optum and is still looking for a permanent role. He would gladly go back to Optum despite the stress. The job market was tough last year and isn’t showing any signs of improvement. I’m on the UHC side and would take an internal job if I were laid off, but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

I was in the redeployment meeting and the guy said everyone else is applying for the same job. And if you dont have every qualification, they wont even consider you. Took the severance and wont look back! Its a cr-ppy company that doesn't care about the employees.

I redeployed quickly to another department. Moderate pay cut, it was not the right role for me. I resigned shortly after going on a PIP in the new role. So I lasted another 6 months after the initial layoff. It was the right decision for me at the time. Super stressful though.

Nope. I was going through the interview process for a similar role in a different Optum business org during my redeployment period. Had a sudden realization that for me personally, even the uncertainty of setting out into the dumpster fire of the general tech job market would be less stressful than potentially staying at Optum. I (professionally) canceled the next internal interview and that was that. It's very disorienting being unemployed in my 40s, but I'm now getting interviews with other companies offering better compensation and fully remote work arrangements. Obviously interviews aren't job offers, but there are places looking. It's a personal decision, but I will never work for Optum or UHG again.

@ac Did they take new jobs for considerably less pay? My understanding is they are re-hiring for substantial less pay - knowing employees are desperate for work to support their families. Unfair on my levels…

75% of my team that was RIF last year are back in diff roles. Time it took ranged from 1 - 9 months.

I have not been laid off by Optum but if I were, I'd take the severance package and never look back. No way would I come back to this awful place. I'd rather flip burgers and have a happy life than deal with the horror of working for Optum.
