Found out that I am being paid less than another person on my team that is lower in title and has a lot less experience than me. Pay based on experience and salary bands are a joke

@ag I know the CMU grads are getting $150k in Engineering starting salary - out of college! In Pittsburgh! Must make the coffee taste great
I worked for many years in the same department, and throughout that time I was at a lower grade than all my colleagues, including new starters, despite the fact that I was one of the most experienced members of the team.
The only visible difference was that I was the only foreigner in the team. My manager was clearly judgmental and, in my view, influenced by unconscious bias.
bny didnt reward long term loyalty with high/competitive compensation in the past, they REALLY don't reward that now. If you joined under RV then you negotiated poorly and have yourself to blame
I started as an Analyst in August and I found out I make more than full time employees that have been here for YEARS. It’s disgusting, and not right at all.
It doesn’t help that we only get barely 2pct raise a year when inflation has keen sky high for the past five years. It’s an absolute joke. Combine this with the additional commute and parking expenses. We are all literally working for less every year and continue to slide down the economic ladder.
how did you find out
Does anyone know what the salary bands actually are?
Unfortunately, this happens all the time. As long as you are within the range for your level not much that can be done, especially since comp conversations were just held. You can chat with your manager and see if they’ll got to bat for you.
I’m sorry to hear about your situation. You aren’t alone. There are a handful of lawsuits against Bny for this.
Have you raised a complaint? If so you should document it.
Thats happening where i am and has been . Sr mgmt are sc-mbags and see nothing wrong. When we call it out we get told cost of living is higher. Guess it only impacts new people. Just remember this and only give what they think you’re worth. F this place. Robin has ruinee it along with all the sh-t he brought in the last couple years
If you are doing substantially similar work, you cannot be paid less due to any of the following reasons, which are called “protected classes”: age or disability status. race, creed, color, or national origin. s-x, s-xual orientation, or gender identity or expression.
That's not much of a surprise. New hires are at close to market rate. Old hats are around 21% below market rates.
Don't ever look into how much the OCAPs are being paid. There's a reason they split them off into their own "path".
