How many months paid cobra/ medical benefits is included as part of the severance? Also when does it kick in (i.e. the following month after termination)?

@dw Sep 2, 2025 RIF, termination date was set as Sep 22. Not even 3 weeks.
Correct that it’s 4 weeks for first year - then one week per service year after… which is way below industry average. Google/adobe/salesforce start at 8-16 weeks then two weeks per service year… HR won’t budge
@bc Usually 3 weeks as remote workers aren't covered by WARN.
@OP I’m not sure how Oracle handles COBRA payments, but most companies require you to make the payments yourself (They give you the money).
COBRA coverage is retroactive to your layoff date, and you have 60 days to elect coverage. Unless you have immediate medical needs, it may make sense to wait until near the end of that 60-day window before making the election. If you become sick or incur medical expenses during that time, you can still elect COBRA and the coverage will apply retroactively to cover those bills.
You will have to pay for 60 days of coverage if elected however, If you can find a job or use a spouses insurance, you can pocket the Cobra money.
severance has two options at oracle, it is unclear which this event will be:
Standard: 2 weeks for first year + 1 week for every year after that, capped at 26 weeks
Enhanced: 4 weeks for first year + 1 week for every year after that, capped at 26 weeks
In the US: There is a notification date (typically End of month or on the 15th), and a two week notification period until your employment end date - meaning you have about 14 days before your employment ends. Access to systems is typically removed on notification date, and your severance starts and benefits end on the employment end date.
Your COBRA benefits are effective of last day of employment, IF you enroll within 60 days. You won't be able to enroll until the packet comes to your home (7-10 days after employment ends). Sometimes (not always), Oracle sponsors COBRA for 30 days, your packet/info will tell you this. Otherwise, this is on you to buy, and it will be a shock on the price. You can carry the cost for up to 18 months.

@bk
More like $2K+
@b9
Yes, cap is 26 weeks...
By expensive they mean $1100 a month for a single person in the US
Any idea what would be the duration between layoff notification date and the termination date for remote employees
@ae Wow, it's up to 4 weeks after one year there? That's good for the newish hires. Is it still capped at 26 weeks?
But yeah, sign the separation agreement to get your severance, and the opportunity for a free month of COBRA. Then... ACA is also very expensive since the government subsidies expired (and it has a hellish deductible). If one is old enough, there's always Medicare. Thing is, you'll also need to get (and pay for) supplemental insurance for what Medicare doesn't cover. Those supplemental plans are reasonably affordable, but again, it's another bill to pay but it's the least expensive.
@OP
In U.S., you will receive one month’s paid COBRA. It is very very expensive coverage, you will likely extend this coverage as a last resort. Severance is 4 weeks for your first year @ Oracle and one additional after week per every year there after. So for example, 10 years total service you would receive a total of 13 weeks severance
One month paid by Oracle if you sign the separation agreement.
It is expensive bro...very expensive
@a4 what did you do after COBRA expires?
I got one month extra medical when I picked COBRA. I dunno remember the exact terms, but you have to get on COBRA withing 60 days ( IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY ) !
