Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Rebranding excercise

Initially, the rebranding news struck me as a desperate move. However, if the new logo is a shift from the iconic Sabre red to black or graphite, it makes some sense. It is either a bold gamble or a deliberate move to align with Google branding. This is especially plausible if there are plans for deep integration into the Google ecosystem. Imagine booking flights directly through Google Maps powered by Sabre. In that context, a minimalist tech focused visual identity is not just a facelift, it is a strategic fit.

Hey, do you know anything more about how Sabre’s booking stuff might connect with Google Gemini or Google Maps? Sabre Mosaic wasn’t really built for that, right? It’s mostly for travel agencies. How would that even work?

@bk

Agreed.
And dollars to donuts, it's some marketing "genius" who prompted said slop, and is so proud of its "written prowess".

AI slop. See last sentence: "is not just a facelift, it is a strategic fit."

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Nobody changes their company's logo to black text to align with another company's logo that is rainbow colored text.

Totally unnecessary.

@ae Not really, it will unify look and feel for google and other big techs so aim is to attract retailers not airlines I suppose.

@OP nice try. We always keep hoping (praying?) of some deep integration with Google. What is the CMO’s claim to fame from previous employers? Changing it from red to black will help win new airline customers?

Sounds like nice idea. It explains also last fast cache announcements as this was always missing piece for this scale. Google as retailer, Sabre as offers provider and insights system for airlines. Sounds too brilliant for current Sabre, but maybe the old dog can learn new tricks with his a-s on the fire.

Maybe rebranding is not a cover for layoffs this time.
