Thread regarding PNC layoffs

OSHA Laws Apply. Downtown PNC Cities are Unsafe

I will remind everyone that according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, your employer has an obligation to ensure your safety in your job.

Can anyone argue that these buildings in the major cities where PNC has office space (Pittsburgh, Philly, Detroit, Columbus, Baltimore, Cleveland, Chicago, etc) have gotten SAFER post Covid, post summer 2020? Look at the data - it's gotten way worse.

Another employee right we must all seek is for our own safety. That would be a strong pillar of a unionization effort. Can you imagine if the current Minneapolis situation was occurring nearby a PNC office building. It could certainly happen.

Will PNC care about us then? Likely, no - "get your butts back here 5 days / week!"

@OP I don't know what Reddit threads you've been reading but OSHA does not require your employer to make sure that the entire city around the office is safe. Unless there are shootings and stabbings in the office on a regular basis, your argument is moot.

You should take time to learn how things work before you rant like a crackpot on the internet and make an a-s of yourself.

@ae

If you think that’s the case (no security at non branch offices) I’ll have to go down to the lobby of the tower and ask the full time security guards what the heck they are doing all day!

I’ll make sure to pet the security dogs as well :)

@ad Nice try. Years ago, I worked in a Branch, some in a few “not so nice” areas. Unless things have changed, many downtown branches have dedicated security officers in the lobby, cameras in the lobby, and other various security items. Some have bullet proof glass. All there to protect the thing most precious to PNC - the $$$$. The employees and customers are just ancillary beneficiaries.

There is no similar protection for non-branch staff. We are SOL. THAT is the point!

During my short time in Pittsburgh office 2018 & 2019 there were 3 homic--es within 500ft from my building in broad daylight. One of my friends was as--ulted waiting at the bus stop. I personally witnessed dr-g use and dr-g deals in front of the Tower (for those who don't know, that is the name of PNC headquarters). I've seen harassment on the bus multiple times. Nothing has gotten any better since then. Just last week we were informed to avoid market square. I understand all cities have their problems. Pittsburgh is not the worst but it is certainly nowhere near even being considered safe.
But this doesn't apply to the executives. They get free parking on site or they get chauffeured. My neighbor sold Cadillacs to PNC. Yes, plural C-a-d-i-l-l-a-c-S. These executives don't have a clue about the world around them.
