We have a TON of VP layers, some of which have no true direct reports. Why not start cutting there and leave the ICs (who actually DO the work!) alone? This company is severely top heavy. That’s where they should look to cut first.

I would like for an HR person to reach out and tell me how to go about becoming a VP with this company.
I have no experience as a VP, nor do I have any qualifications for this role, and have no business being in a VP role. So, I should fit in perfectly with the rest of the VPs.
Oh, I should mention, if given the job, I do not want any direct reports and I would prefer to have my days filled with meetings that do not require my input or direction. But I need lots and f flexibility to not attend meetings for when I want to pick up dry cleaning, take a nap in the park on a nice sunny day, or go buy expensive clothes, watches, pens, and whatnot.
Anyway, please reach out soon, HR! Thanks!
@ac VP title seems to be handed out like candy compared to companies in any other industry. VP at Centene seems to be more like a director at many other companies (not comp, but functions).
Does anyone know if this is their plan?
Too many supervisors/ managers/directors in every team that do nothing!
Hopefully they cut the fat at the top and spare the workers that keep this sinking ship afloat!!!
VP’s got the letter too. They are “flattening” the org structures to lean on AI. Google the term.
I have been saying that for years. Even if they dont eliminate the VP's - at least cut their salaries down and save the working people. Let us work! We got bills and families, I am sure they do too - but its obscene how high their salaries are - like do you REALLY need $15-$20 MILLION dollars a year? What are you doing with your life that you need THAT much to survive?
They got rid of the Staff VP and Regional VP titles last year and moved all those folks into a generic VP title, but there are still different levels of VP behind the scenes. That said, I still agree with being too top heavy and too many leaders without teams. Doesn’t make sense.
Yes too many high level people with no directs!!
I 100% agree. At our State Health Plan alone. We had 2 Directors roles created for 2 departments that did not exist. 1 of the Directors was given a staff of 5 various employees from various teams throughout the health plan after a year. Their did not apply for the dept. They were told to move to the dept because the Director needed a team.
The 2nd Director worked for 2 yrs with no staff. A department was created for her. No one knew for 2 yrs what was her department's role within the health plan. She was very good friends with the Sr. VP that she reported to. After 2 yrs, she was given a staff of 6 from shared services, but we are the state health plan. We don't have shared service employees working for state health plan, they work for Centene Corp. What is going on here?
Someone creating departments for people to have employment in Director positions. Departments that no one knows exactly what is the purpose of the dept. Mmmm...
