The survivors are the ones who'll be unlucky

Survivors will keep working for a company that’s struggling, probably having to do extra work, and facing a future where severance is no longer a guarantee. I honestly think that getting severance now might be the better option between the two.

My team was understaffed and stretched thin to begin with. Now they will have to do a lot more work with fewer people.

For me, the one thing that brings me comfort about getting laid off is RTO. I signed up for 2 days a week in office. If they really make it 5 days, I’d rather collect severance and unemployment and look for a new job. I NEED the flexibility.

@b4 That's what I'm wondering. What extra work? I'm going to do what I can and clock out after my 8 hours. Work doesn't get done? Tough ti----s. Maybe next-time don't chop your arm off after cutting 10 pounds of flesh.

Not really. The survivors can always leave on their own terms (at least until the next round).

You’re not wrong that it won’t be easy for some teams to complete objectives with fewer people.

With experience in many Bell Atlantic and Verizon employee reductions prior to Hans&Current Leadership Team employees who remained had trust in the integrity of the Executives.

That no longer exists… between DEI, failed Business integration decisions to creating debt on waisted Spectrum and aquistions (AOL to Blue Jeans…..) the current CEO is all of a sudden focused on Vz failed results over the past 8 years?

CEO sole focus is securing a $50M compensation package created by the same Board he was a member of for previous 8 years.

Trust is gone forever!

Here is another way you can look at the situation. The people who are kept at Verizon have a great opportunity. Dan has detailed the direction he wants to go. And other companies are either already on the AI path or will be joining in the months ahead. So, use this time to max out on Verizon learning opportunities and the partnership with Udemy (verizon.udemy.com) and take courses to enhance your skills. Apply what you learn to your job where you can. I also suggest you look at the kinds of things you want to do if Verizon was no longer an option, and create a list of the skills you need and use the tools we have to build those skills. For the people who are told they need to find another job, they also have a great opportunity. You now get to choose your own adventure - your next career / job. You will be "Work From Home" at this point and only allowed to work on transitional projects, which will free up your time. Use the time to think about what you are good at and what you are great at and start a simple consulting practice on that thing or things. Spend a few days and build out something simple. Domains and hosting accounts are relatively inexpensive. And website templates allow you to just add text and graphics. In the process of doing this, you will identify some of the skills you need to build - and depending on your end date, you can still use the Verizon learning portals to enhance those skills (or at least, I believe you should still have access). The "consulting" business gets added to your LinkedIn profile (you can always back-date it to create a year or two buffer) and that way you still look employed (important because anyone who hires will tell you that they value people who are currently working vs people who are unemployed). There are other free courses available as well, eg, LinkedIn. So, in my view, either way, you have a great opportunity. Does losing a job su-k? Yes. Does working for a company where the threat of frequent layoffs create stress and uncertainty? Yes. But at the end of the day, think about what you can control. You have access to resources and they are free, so tap into them.

It still is and still will be a great company to work for. I get it people are worried but the doom and gloom is over the top. Good pay, good benefits, tuition assistance, bonuses. It su-ks thinking about it I get it but doesn't mean I'd leave hateful wanting the company to fail. Short memories on this forum. I hope no one reading this gets cut I seriously do but never burn bridges if it is you. Future opportunities and good references matter. The telecom/tech world is smaller than you think.

I think it would be prudent for everyone to update their resumes and look for something else. That’s what the Hatchet Man wants … to be “leaner”
