Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Relocation is not an option

Who would spend that much money and energy, uproot their entire family, leave jobs, commitments, and social circles, all for a position that could disappear six months later? Seriously? The age of job security and real career growth that once justified relocating feels like a thing of the past. Practically prehistoric.

Why are you on here suggesting people are going to relocate for RTO?

@ac My concern is that it will happen in another year, maybe a little more. Several more waves of RTO. Each expanding to new regions and widening the drive time they use to choose who comes. Eventually, they will cherry pick a few full telecommute employees (basically only long-time employees, upper level, and most qualified/integral to specific contracts) to keep and offer others awful relocation packages (that they know people will turn down).

Hopefully I'm wrong. But there's already huge complaint from people who have RTO about people who are not, and in town halls with high level leaders they have openly stated they plan to expand RTO beyond the two areas they are doing right now.

@ac you will regret saying this in a couple months.

People within a 30 mile driver being called into the office. I haven’t heard of anyone being asked to relocate?
