Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO looks like a must

Been working for years at T and not able to crack interviews in other companies due to technological shifts and not enough preparation. So the only choice left is to RTO and keep the job to put food on the table. The sooner the better.

@a9 Yes, it happens in many if not most cases. If they did not want to get rid of you, they would not tell you to move. Some people fail to take the hint. If you do move you need to immediately find a better position in a different org because if your job has been greenlit to "follow-the-work" it is not going to be a US-based job for very long. As for the reason? They don't need a reason, just headcount reduction to pay for stock buybacks and the dividend.

@ab

Try here (lots of F/T remote jobs, too) https://builtin.com/jobs/remote/hybrid/office?search=ai&city=Dallas&state=Texas&country=USA

Yeah that's not it champ. I've seen the best and brightest be released just because of where they live and they aren't willing to move for no reason. The only skill that would prevent a firing is being related to leadership.

@ab My move to Plano will be based on a single salary. Now, I am unsure how much stability T will provide upon moving to Plano. When you applied and got offers, isn’t it the same stability issue with the new company as well as compared to T?

I’ve been trying for a couple years now, but I’ve been selective where I applied and which companies and jobs. I’ve had a few interviews and a couple offers, none were exciting enough for me to move, pay was higher but stability was questionable. For the past year though, it has been dead. I started searching in earnest around October, applied to tons of jobs and have received nothing but automated rejection emails. Skills wise, I’m probably in the top tier on latest tech, Ai, with certifications to go with it; however, for some reason or another, internally they still have me doing very basic stuff with no opportunities to go where I could provide the most value. I’ve asked and have proven my abilities many times. I just don’t see any growth potential here and the pay has really been lagging due to inflation.

“Did anybody get laid off after moving to a hub due to RTO? If so, what is the reason?”

Marginal performance.

Did anybody get laid off after moving to a hub due to RTO? If so, what is the reason? Project shut down and team laid off or performance or anything else?
