Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

The rest of the year

I've heard the rest of the year will be bad when it comes to layoffs. We won't see a slowdown but the opposite. Can someone tell me I'm wrong? Please?

Hey 388 folks. It really saddens me to see people getting let go when I have been asking for a package for months. It's against my grain but now I have to behave poorly, slow walk everything, be non responsive. I used to be online by now (7am) but now I'll just post my misery here.

It will be bad until 1q2027. I’ve polished my resume, I’m interviewing externally even if it’s just for practice, and I’m saving like crazy to hold me over if I get laid off. Everyone should be doing that. Always, regardless of the company. Corporate America is brutal

@aw I can assure you I am not HR. I am just a rational cog in the machine just like you.

For the OP…..

Let me repeat what I’ve read so many times on this board. This will help a lot of potential future posters and save time, so…..

For those that state to polish your resume…”thank you HR” or “thank you recruiter”. Anyone that advocates looking for a job outside of Citi you get that label of HR or recruiter. Its impossible for any Citi employee to suggest looking outside of Citi for employment or any job search preparation steps. If you get let go, you might as well forget any future employment ever, it’s impossible to have employment outside of Citi.

Also let me give you one of these…”it’ll do you no good to look for a job, no one is hiring so don’t even bother looking. Its a waste of time”. and then one of these “everywhere else is just like Citi and maybe even worse”. This comes from those who want to feel better about themselves for their own stagnation and\or inactivity.

Let me wrap it up with….”If you’re not the master of all things AI development, then you’ll be fired and won’t be hired anywhere else ever for the rest of your life. “

There, I’ve laid it all out for you. These are the rules from those who regularly post on this board.

@aa

"Polish" the resume is the way to go in light of the current push to lower cost locations.

I second that
sometimes I wonder how those people can lie that easily looking in our eyes, knowing their words have such a profound impact on people's lives
I understand they don't want to affect stuff's morale, but it's already been shuttered in pieces. I am pretty sure there are effective ways to communicate potential changes, but conscience/ culture/manners/ethics/EQ are clearly missing in the jungle animals

Expect the worst but hope for the best. My advice to you is polish your resume dip into the job market and have a backup plan. Worst case scenario if you are laid off is you are prepared to job hunt and could do it remotely from Bali or something like that. Good luck

We got assurance that we weren’t going to be affected. 2 weeks later had the script zoom and was laid off in March. Do minimum work just enough to get a 3 then exit unless your layoff severance would be worth it, than hang in there.

I wish I could tell you not to worry but it wouldn’t be true. As someone who was recently laid off, please start looking for a new role NOW. And don’t believe any manager when they say they everything is fine, safe, or ok… it isn’t.
