What is the 8 hour rule / office equipment

Manager here who hasn't heard of this 8 hour in office rule. I've seen a lot of post about this so I know it's a thing. Was there an email sent out or were you guys just notified by leadership?

Also, is anybody else's a lot of business not providing work from home equipment anymore? This is ridiculous.

I would MUCH rather have my own equipment than WF garbage. Just my opinion, but I'd be perfectly happy buying my own equipment and never having to deal with tech again. At least, not for my own hardware issues. We have no access to anything useful on these laptops.

@ap yeah about 4-5 years ago before Covid there was talk of byod for remote access and thin client vdi in office. Some leadership was excited about it. I was livid. So now I have to purchase my own hardware to work? F u. No. If I have to do that then I won’t do any remote work.

Not true. GPL can still order monitors from home use.

If you’re a manager & don’t know about this you need to be the first person to go. 1- look up “understanding in office expectations” on teamwork’s. Posted weeks ago. Also maybe Check an email now again. There has been multiple to managers firm wide. 2- wfh equipment was very LOB specific (most didn’t get it) and ended when we returned to office how many years ago?
This has to be a joke post.

@a9 I’m sorry you’re getting downvoted. When my little Dell brick PC died years ago during WFH, my manager had issues getting it replaced. In a 1on1 with me he said WF was planning on implementing a BYOD policy.

That was years ago and it hasn’t happened yet, but there was definitely talk about it at some point. Fortunately I was able to be swapped out for a laptop, and when that laptop finally died I was able to be swapped out for a newer one.

With the way things are going it wouldn’t surprise me if we had to supply our own equipment.

@a9 Like handyman working hourly is the future. You bring your own tools.

It is probably initiative devised by all the men executives in the top to get rid of women. I hear most of the women employees are impacted by this monitoring in the team meetings.

Everyone at least in Technology is returning to Laptop use. Meaning no cloud no virtual connection. Everyone will be reverting back to laptops. MS Windows 10 support has ended. Cloud is too expensive, the primary delay in migrating cloud users is that their laptops must be win11 compatible. They won’t be providing screens ect at home but you will receive a laptop. Not so you can work remote but instead so you can work. It will be the only option

@a1 I'm looking at the report now and it shows me in office and I was in the office 6 hours. IDK M2 here.

I've definitely heard the rumors about needing to purchase our own laptop in the future but, it's getting closer than I thought.

How are you a manager and haven't heard this yet? A lot of people still have laptops. Don't expect them to provide home equipment.
