Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What to do with my vacation days when I quitting

I plan on quitting in November but I have 3 weeks of earned vacation left. Should I use it all before I quit? Will Ford pay me for the unused portion? What is the best way to handle this?

Just use the damn vacation already. If management gives you a hard time just tell them you have a family emergency or you gotta fly to Thailand for a funeral or something

before you quit you have up to 25 official vacations days per year and another 52 unofficial vacations per year for WTH which is technically PTO. after you retire you will have 365 days of vacation per year. you will have lots of time to figure what you want to do with your vacation time.

No wonder they are hiring H1Bs

Just request that Ford pay you for your unused vacation time in your resignation letter.

Don’t use it and trust Ford to pay it out to you. Ford always does the right thing and stands by it’s employees even when they are leaving.

@bm Sounds like the Ford ge----o got the jump on them. Should have spotted that mirror coming in and adjusted movements accordingly. Gotta stay sharp and get out.

Give them 2 weeks notice and tell them you are going to a competitor. They will walk you out that day and pay you the two weeks.

Several years ago I asked HR about unused vacation. My direct question was if I retire at the end of November with 25 unused vacation days will I get paid all 25 even if there are only 17 remains working days in December? You can guess that answer. I never got a clear definitive response. I left using 8 days prior and getting paid the 17. Why take the chance without something in writing.

You earn 1/10th of your vacation per month. At the end of October you have all of it.

you send an email to ford payroll and state the days of unused vacation and they pay you.

your current supervisor will get a note to verify the days owed. Make sure that you agree on this number and get it in writing before your last day.

Purchased vacation days are not paid our and are lost. Sorry... of course you have to use all your earned vacation days before purchased ones.

You get vacation paid out if you are laid off. Ford may not pay for your vacation days if you leave voluntarily or fired.

Ford should be happy that people are leaving without having to pay severance. After all is that their whole intend of RTO4 and limited desk/parking.

@a5 Sounds like you're trauma-bonded and show signs of being in an acute crisis. Definitely let us know all details so we can hold a proper exit-interview. The HR handles the situation professionally and will do a great job of easing the tension when facing a situation on the border of turning volatile, like yours. We are your partners.

@a5 This is Ford Motor Company, not a normal toxic corporate company. If you do that, they will have the meeting of the minds and seek to destroy everything in your life that carries meaning. Give them those two weeks and they will scheme. Give them an inch, they'll take i696 and sc--w you at each and every exit. Don't give them two weeks of anything. Treat this as if you're leaving an abusive relationship. Go gray rock. D-mb as bricks. Or else they'll start claiming you stuff like you tried using psychic powers to bring the ceiling crashing down in the past. If you detest these claims, they'll start treating your situation like you're an unpredictable time-bo-b that needs to be contained. They will begin by thinking you have mind powers to just make everyone explode or something. They'll start saying they've seen people like you do that and how terrifying it is. They'll even try harnessing this imaginary power for themselves by offering you crystals as a last stretch retention strategy. This comes from a very absurd personal experience.

OP here, thanks for the info! I didn't realize it take 6-9 months to get the unused vacation money from Ford. I definitely will use up all my vacation before I quit. Can I give them 2 weeks of notice and then take a vacation for that 2 weeks?

@OP. Are you sure you have 3 weeks left? Usually the vacations are prorated. Meaning that maybe you'll have 11/12 or 10/12 of those 3 weeks when you quit. And as @a2 said, you'll get the money months later.

If you are planning to quit on November because you found another job, coast at Ford until then and get the money of the vacations. If you are quitting because RTO and stress, maybe taking the vacation days is better. Still, if you are sure about quitting, and don't care about much, just coast and use the money.

Cut your losses, don't even engage in finding out. Just get out. Let them keep it if you must. These people are not okay, don't let them get a whiff about anything. Just escape

Ford will pay your vacation days back 6-9 months later from the date of your departure. They don't want you to get that money back at once. Gotta keep you down!
